We're Unlikely to Be the Only Life In the Universe

Astrum Extra

This Astrum compilation explores alien life, and attempts to answer the big questions: How might complex life evolve on other planets? Could aliens be just like us? If we want to find them, what should we look for? And could they even be intentionally hiding?

May we all have a good nice sleep after what we went through today and what will come tomorrow. Good night everyone.

They would look like rocky spiders whose language is in music notes. :D

Define intelligence, from what I've seen lately I'm starting to wonder.

I learned nothing from this video but am eternally grateful it's being read by a real human and not just copy pasted voice to text "ai slop"
Thank you ❤

Given the size of the universe, I'm fairly certain there's intelligent life out there. Is it common? Probably not. For one thing, the sheer size of the universe is almost incomprehensibly large. Secondly, the universe is a dangerous place. I'm guessing lots of extinction events have happened. Various nova types. Solar flares. CME. Gamma ray bursts. Meteor/comet strikes. Pole shifts. The list goes on and on.

What if we are the first to have life? Someone or something has to be the first. Why not us? I'm not sure if that's more scary

I’m confident that there is intelligent life out there somewhere, but I’m much less confident that that intelligent life has evolved into a technological civilization. There has been intelligent life on Earth for millions of years and as far as we know we are the only species that has become technologically advanced. The lens we use is based on our belief that we are an example of what evolution is working to achieve, but I don’t think the end goal of evolution is civilization or technology, it’s survival. The chances that some random species on some random planet just happened to follow the same path as us, when none of the other species right here on Earth did, are pretty slim. IMO…

The calculation should include the Galactic Habitable Zone. Stars that could support life (G and K) also need to be in a quiescent galactic neighborhood with sufficient heavy elements - about halfway out from the center and not crossing a galactic arm.

We have no frame of reference, so even if we discover intelligent lif outside of earth, unless it was strikingly similar to what we have here, we may over look it completely.

Very much appreciate the Y-Wing cameo!

Has anybody really considered whether it matters? Of course we’re not the only life in the universe, but it doesn’t matter because the distance is too great for us to ever contact other life or for them to contact us. For all practical purposes, we are alone, even if we’re not alone so we need to focus on working together and living together and nurturing each other and our planet.

15:50 - Fire fulfills most of those requirements

Mork looked exactly like us and he was from Ork, so there's some of your convergent evolution right there. 🥴

Based on current astronomical estimates, there are roughly 100 billion to 2 trillion observable galaxies in the universe......
Are We Alone in the Universe? The Surprising Probability .... If 1% of these visible galaxies has just one planet currently supporting life, there would be 1 billion to 20 billion life-supporting planets in the observable universe. for some reason people like Drake think there should be hundreds or more in our milky way alone. it's like expecting to go anywhere on this planet, dig a hole and find gold.

@SpankySlaps94 3 months ago

This kind of thing is fun to think about. With how massive the universe is, it's truly very likely that some other life forms are out there

@KWally 5 months ago

I'd like to imagine there's life like in Arrival out there

40:06 is that an alien spacecraft? That's so scary!

This is an amazing video! 🥹 Great Job Astrum!!!
If you close your eyes and sit still long enough doing nothing do you not feel the infinitely beautiful, terrifying multiverse full of everything?
