Welcome back, so glad you could be with me here today.

Someone Asked me about my ECE Planes, so here are a few.
These are my single Irons, meaning they just have a blade and no chip breaker.
It is amazing how well the perform even with a wide open mouth.

Hope this answers some questions.
As for me I need to get these ready tol be gifted once they are cleaned up.
Time for them to have new caretakers.

You have enough hand planes to start a small museum!

Fine assortment of quality hand planes

Knabenhobel translates to boy´s plane. They were made for children to learn woodworking, that´s why they´re so small but a smaller plane comes in handy often, even for adults.

I love wooden planes but find those horns quite disgusting. The shape makes no sense.

Very nice group of smaller planes. I’ve a question for you on striking them with the appropriate small hammer- I see that some have the button to strike on…I have a few like the ones you made that you pulled off the shelf- cherry? My query is, do you get marring and blemishes on the wood from striking when there is no button and if so, is it just part of the deal and don’t fret?

Thanks for posting Walter. I love ECE planes. Some of the joinery planes are hard to find in the US. I have a mixture of their bench and joinery planes. You’re a lucky guy to have 3 of those Einhand Hobels. They don’t make them like that anymore - just the Primus version.

I've never used a wooden plane, although a couple of YouTubers I follow prefer them. The usual claim is that sliding wood over wood is easier than sliding metal over wood. What're your feelings about wood vs metal planes, please?

In the UK (as you'll know) we predominantly use the same Stanley pattern iron planes as in the US (and the same style older wooden planes which I still use and love too). But I've always liked the look of those ECE planes and keep thinking I should buy one. Maybe I really will, but I have a horrible feeling that I might not be able to stop at just one if I do 🙂
