There easy , drill 3mm hole then a reverse tap,

good to go , Why not go to a heavier pellet to get the fps down?

If you wanted the spring out would you just turn the hammer spring adjuster all the way out or is there a retaining pin to knock out ?

As you were using an extractor could you have just wound the old screw in a bit and the extractor should have released?
