So sad to hear that Neil Vaughn didn't beat his cancer. My grandmom had stomach cancer & had over 70% of her stomach removed because of it, but after her chemo treatments she beat it. Neil had a really good view on life and he was really more upbeat, so I was hoping that he'd beat it. RIP Neil.
Ahhh, The constant sound of keys, doors banging, people talking and shouting constant everyday and a smell a smell I'll never forget! Prison for me is what you make it, I treated people with respect and was paid with the same in return If you go in with the intention of being a trouble maker you'll definitely find it which doesn't necessarily mean you'll have a easier time you will find it harder and can make enemies quickly. Their is some type of moral code on the inside which I became accustomed to I'll never forget all the people i'v met, and I remember all the faces clearly I remember the struggles and the stories that were told, I started to appreciate the little things more like the feeling of the air as you step outside for exercise or like the little treat you have bought yourself on canteen day. In a way prison for me was a experience in exactly the same way as you would experience a rollercoaster for the first time It made no difference to me as take the good and the bad in anything. Do I miss prison? In a way yes But i enjoy my freedom more! Like i have mentioned previously the little things that what makes life, dont take them for granted because one day one day you might have it taken from you. Be kind treat people with respect, care and consideration and enjoy your life and most of all do good!
The humanity of some of the prison officers shines through. This was filmed at a time when the politician's started cutting back, resulting in less staff, less resources and major resentment in the prison service. As a consequence staff left in droves, drug use in prison increased, as did violence. Folk are to a great extent products of their environment, you reap what you sew. Looking back at old documentaries like this (there's another on Utube about Holloway in the 60's that is illuminating), I think gives an indication of where politicians went wrong; letting private companies run more of the prison service for profit, cutting budget's to the bone, the shutting of mental health hospitals and not dealing with the drug problem are some I can think of. God forbid that we end up with a prison system like the US, prisoners in those jails don't stand a chance. Timothy Leary did some trials of using LSD in US prisons in the 60's to treat prisoners, reoffending rates were cut, however the program was shut down, TM concluded that prisons in the US was a self perpetuating system, the planners didn't want to see reoffending cut, it's a business, with consequent profits and vested interests who lobby against change. If you want a decent society, treat people with decency. Forgive the long diatribe - DA.
The Singing Guard STEVE SCOTT is soooo Entertaining!!! I couldn't stop laughing when he came to work and entering the prison, unlocking cells and singing "What a Beautiful Morning, What a Beautiful Day" ššš¤£ Brilliant
If anyone who's young enough to understand what they really go through in prison you'll find that any of the prisoners will tell you not to get into the types of crimes that will get you put away for ages
To see Steve and Chris is a breath of fresh air Iād have 20 officers with there approach to there work than one bully who is too serious , I no there are some men / women who you cannot deal with a laugh or joke but to me it was so much better than today !
