Do miss these skaters. That generation they were so good.

This was Katia's and Ilia's public declaration of their relationship....such a perfect and beautiful statement!

The choreography was perfect. A lot of us were like "No!!! This doesn't feel right!" at first because she and Sergei were the perfect couple in every way. They both showed that struggle sat the beginning of the routine. Her's and his too. She's questioning her feelings. Is it ok? Maybe it's too soon? But I'm so young... He loves me?? And then the music changes... She smiles. Here embraces her and she lets him... Yes, it's ok to love again. Not the same as before... But she'll never be the same as before... Yet it's perfect and beautiful in its own way.... Sigh...

WOW!! this is pure skating, its beatiful, elegant, simple edges, simple movments.... I really miss this kind of skating, the flow, the wind on the clothes.... the pace.... the feeling of the music!!

How sad that Ilia and Katia are now divorced. 😭

This was incredibly moving!  That first lift just took my breath away... shades of Grinkov but not Grinkov.  They didn't do much actual pairs skating but the tension and mood between them was absolutely stunning--you could cut it with a knife!  This is one of the best SOI numbers I've ever seen.

Very beautiful and lovely to see such different holds and moves from what she did with Sergei, as it is quite impossible not to compare similarities and yearn for that magic they had together. I don't see that ever happening again as it came from their passion for each other..

This routine was wonderful, however,  there is a huge fiffeence between the relationship she shows with Ilia in this and what she shared with Sergei. Ilia is quite masterful and the power figure.  Sergei and she on the contrary, showed extreme tenderness. He was very much the man, but he treated her like Dresden. One could see the caring he had for her. She was his little girl to be taken care of and protected and looked after. And she showed youth and joy and the sensuality they shared off ice, in private. Nothing was overt or vulgar in anyway, just absolutely beautiful, with such great caring betweeen them.  I always wonderd why she got together with Ilia. He always came across as brilliant, but cocky and brash, perhaps it was part of his youth, but he came across as having a rough edge to him. Totally the opposite of Sergei, who appeared to dote on Katia and vice versa.  With Ilia it never seemed a really caring relationship between them. He seemed to be more into marketing her and products etc. It gave her a hard edge which she never showed before.  

This routine was beautiful, however.

This was my favorite pair ice dance. It was so beautiful! I wish there were more ice shows like this. The music fit all of the skaters so perfectly. So moving and romantic.

That was just  beautiful.

I remember the first time I saw this and I was so worried (as much as a 17 year old could be) that they wouldn't be good even though I LOVED both of them.  I was so moved then and I still get emotional because it's just beautiful.  I saw SOI in 1997-1998 and Katia would come out in the dark to watch the other pairs skate and she looked like she missed it.  To be able to find love AND be able to skate with such a great guy again?  Priceless....she's just amazing and I'm still so happy for the two of them. xo
