Guy's obsessed and his attitude seems to echo that of too many Gulf employers of OFWs, she's not anyone's property. I think he'safraid of losing face with his family, he's spun his fantasy into reality as far as they know.
Incidentally there's a charity in London even that helps Filipina and African employees of abusive Gulf employers to get away and get support as they come away with nothing including their passports that their employer holds. Part of the reason there are now modern slavery laws in the UK is that the way these people are treated is common knowledge.

The agencies in the Philippines are at fault too. I had a girlfriend who got a contract in Saudi Arabia. She was told by the agency it would be 8 hours work, six days a week. Turned out to be a minimum of 12 hours a day, 7 days a week. No free Wifi provided and loads cost much more in Saudi, no overtime payments and she was exhausted every day. These agencies need to run checks and keep in touch with the women they send there.
