It’s not just the youth,  it’s all types, the elderly, the sick, the workers. Everyone’s been excluded.   It’s a developing third world country.

Councils need to give safe places for people to camp all year around.

You have no idea the stats. It's massive for all age groups. Elderly living in cars is huge and silent.

When visiting Hamilton I went and slept on the street at Five Crossing for a couple nights no blankets, nothing and it was a very uncomfortable experience I did not have to do this, but wanted to experience what so many are having to deal with to know how it feels. I was 50 years old .

I was helping troubled youth in the Auckland region between 10-15 years ago giving them gardening skills and guidance to create community gardens, having them working on maraes staying warm sheltered fed and doing mahi developing gardens, carving, and such. We as the people can do so much more it’s an uphill battle to expect the gvt will step up and until then as a  nation of innovators there is so much more we can do within our communities throughout this country.
Farmers taking on immigrants could develop a platform where these young people can register an be chosen over and above immigrants creating a stronger economy in our farming industry in the years to come.
The list is endless as for many years I have encouraged people to become more innovative

What's happened to extended family is what I have to wonder. Its sad if young ones have no one to go to.

Unbelievable! How the fk NZ citizens born and bred here become homeless in their own country? This should never have happened,  The system is fkd!

Look after our own families.

Just when we think the youth suicide rate is high enough, situations our people/ youth are going through with lack of strategic planning looks to only get worse. Thank you for bringing this to light. I hope they hurry up with filling the gaps .. Nz youth has loads of talent and potential they just need support. Personal well being, safe environment/housing, realistic future goals with the means to accomplish.

I am houseless not homeless. I don't ask for help. It's all on me. I have a mindset that prevents me from being pulled down. Know the difference between good and bad, right and wrong, want and need. Food, water and shelter are necessities for life. I draw on inspiration from our ancestors for survival. How much do you need and what do you need it for? If your whanau, iwi or government can't help you then you need to be the change for you. Good luck, people

Where has all that iwi money gone. Got given 50% of the fisheries and instead of using it to create jobs they leased the quota to overseas companies

So much money that has come from waitangi has never got to the people who's name's the claims were made, and that's a tragedy in this country but that is a fact and many Māori at the bottom and that's the mass majority know their getting nothing out of it.

Government doesn't know what they are doing.  incompetent!

Absolutely disappointed, that the parents, pop out kids, but do not want to look after them.  Or go find them and help them. the parents should be held accountable, let us call it abandonment.  Charities need to get of their butts and use fundraising strategies that does not include Government funding. That is the problem, charities know if they obtain funding themselves then they would not be eligible for Government funding, better to sit back and show they cannot do it.  There are many corporates out there, one by one, visit them and you will obtain funding for your charity.  Media, wakeup, do your research.

Help from many government agencies and charities don’t work for hopeless. Everyone is responsible for their own life.

This should not be happening in new Zealand all kinds young middle age old need help..why don,t start building community gardens veg's fruit trees  everyone come together help in some way community Pantry's  where people put food clothes shoes what ever just help someone in need❤️🙏

This Nat govt is not providing data, it makes them look unknowing, As a ex case Manager downtown Tamaki , the govt had independent youth benefit , assisted by OT. Now i recall as a youth officer finding 100 kids living in the tunnels by the railway station, follow the graffiti.
