i love the shape and the idea of having a tt, and the insurance for me being old is really cheap, but i just cant justify having it on the road as a daily driver because the road tax is just so bloody expensive.

They were a revolutionary styling success when new. Bought a beautiful 2001 manual coupe last weekend. Hot climate here so it's not rusty at all but also not been left out in the sun/garaged. Replaced all the tyres that were good tread but from 2016. Huge history file, no mods. Delighted!

Great video Daniel! I picked up a 180bhp MK1 TT Quattro at the end of last summer and absolutely love it. It was a pretty spontaneous purchase after doing a banger rally trip last year, drove with a few people who had TTs and couldn’t resist getting one myself. Love the V6 touches on yours too, they make such a difference. Such an underrated modern classic.

I can confirm after 2 years that the turbo noise indeed never gets old! I've been with mine that long (it was my birthday present on Oct 25th 2023) and it's still one of the things that makes me smile the most.

Also, there's a bit of turbo lag when you put the foot down, and then it gives you its all. That anticipation is just so hard to explain. It's probably bad for every sort of measure imaginable, except for joy and smiles per hour. So addicting!

Do you know how long ago the belt and water pump were done? Those are, I heard, the things you need to religiously do so you don't get a very bad repair bill, but themselves are already pricey. I think I'm doing mine next year (fun fact, we have almost the same mileage! Mine has like just 200 km less than yours), and I'm already looking at 600 or 700 euros for that. But better than ruining the whole car!

Get the original airbox fitted before summer. Nice cool air = more performance and reliability. Don’t want it sucking all that hot air in from the turbo.

You will find the power drops a lot in the summer by not using the original airbox, too much hot air from the turbo. After about 12-18 months you will have a maf coated in muck and an engine management light as well. The original airbox is much more effective than the cone filters. Check the timing belt, check the hoses. Get the haldex serviced pronto.

I also have 2003 MK1 225 in Moro blue. I've had it 12 years and absolutely love it, never tire of the stunning design and it's a blast to drive. 0-60 in just over 6 seconds and fast. The BAM engine is an engineering masterpiece..

My son just bought a 2002 TT ALMS, red with silver interior. It came with a Neuspeed short shift kit,  air intake and anti-roll bars and Bilstein B14 coilovers with those same BBS wheels as you've got. Only 129k miles on it. Interior is very cool and still feels pretty solid for it's age. It will complement his 2012 Ford Focus which will still be his daily. Also get the car park reference as my wife and I have 4 cars  and my daughter has one, so 7 cars parked at my house! Anyway, very cool car.

Your cone filter will slowerly degrade the engine performance, and it will run lean and hot. I would Install the old airbox and put a nice new K&N box filter inside it for better better sound and cooling. Your engine will love you for it.

It's a shame the prev owner had to go through insurance and not repair it themselves, such minor damage for a write off is crazy!

Welcome to the darkside...  That noise does sound like a dump valve.  Turbos are great fun to drive though, the anticipation of the power right before it kicks in.
At least the back seat forces you into the brace position, ready for the Cat S 😀
