In this episode of Honest. Townhall by Student Tribe, students engage in a candid, student-led conversation with Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam, going beyond films and into the realities behind choosing cinema as a life.
From his early life in Warangal and the decision to study engineering, to entering films through short films, writing, and direction, Tharun speaks openly about fear, self-doubt, criticism, internet pressure, creative exhaustion, and the long gaps between projects. Students ask direct questions about writing characters, surviving without shortcuts, expectations after success, and staying honest in an industry built on noise.
The conversation also touches on love, friendships, mental health, silence, and ends with grounded advice for students, rapid-fire questions, and personal reflections on confusion, pressure, and purpose.
In this episode:
• Childhood, schooling & Warangal roots
• Engineering vs cinema & parental expectations
• Writing, direction & real-life characters
• Fear, failure & second chances
• Industry realities, nepotism & meme culture
• Love, friendships & private life
• Student advice, rapid fire & reflections

Honest. Townhall by Student Tribe is a student-led series where real questions shape real conversations.
