At 69, I am improving with this concept. Very straight, reasonable distance, with repeatability. But, I was fortunate enough to see Moe hit balls in the early 1990's, if I lived to 169, I could not work the ball like he demonstrated! Every shot in game, with pinpoint accuracy! Many are longer but I doubt that his ability to hit all the shots can be matched!
The strike is probably the most impressive. You can tell he is hitting everything out of the dead centre of the face with the club travelling level to the ground. It’s insane. I would love to see his trackman numbers. I am guessing quite shallow.
Make sure your arms are together for the backward waggle so they turn your torso and shoulders in the process. Moe said BUCKLE (above your hips to the right), SIT (as if you are lowering yourself onto a stool), SLIDE (the waggle away from the ball with your arms, torso, and shoulders as a single unit, and your left hip joint will pop into a new position). BUMP (return the club head to the target line several inches behind the ball and bump it back on the target line). On your take away with straight legs, your left ankle rolls trail ward and the entire left leg and knee folds toward the right leg. keep your right chin close to your right collar bone so that you do not spin. Also stay back on your heels.
Moe's "move" looks pretty straight forward. Begins with a buckle above the hips, way under, to then set his grip and elbows close together. He braces his right leg, feet on the insides, heavy in his heels. Club 2 inches behind the ball, then a large backward waggle with a strong left hand grip to turn his torso and shoulders to the right, then a return 6-8 inches behind the ball, just behind the target line with the club head, then a bump forward with the club to get back on the target line for more shoulder-torso turn. Take away with hands occurs between the railroad tracks. The torso and hands naturally take the "club up, not around" in the take away. hands stay in the vertical plane of the railroad tracks and in a horizontal plane of the level hips and shoulders. Your feet return flat on the ground. torso returns to face the ball. The club head returns square and level to the ball for several inches or more in the "business area". There is no thinking during the swing once you understand the set up. Keep your right chin close to your right collar bone. Keep your legs straight and the left hip joint, left knee, and entire left leg folds behind your right knee on the take away. Craig Shanklin said it is all in the set-up.
Every driving range in the northern hemisphere should face north shooting north. Despite the time balls are easier to see. It dont do me any good shooting into the sun where I can't see where my ball went. Moe... ball striking super hero.
I saw Moe do a clinic in Florida in 1999 - falcon fire I believe was the coarse - and he did not miss hit a shot in the almost 2 hours he hit balls (at the age of 69/70 ish). It was amazing and he lived up to the hype I’d always heard surrounding “greatest ball striker” legend.
