PORTLAND LOOKS LIKE LEFT 4 DEAD — BEN AVERY
Very Good Clips
13,045 views
Ben talks about Portland, homeless encampments, public freakouts, and the bizarre ways ordinary arguments turn into full-scale meltdowns. He reacts to videos showing Portland’s streets and pedestrian underpasses, jokes about the city’s competing fashion tribes of black-leather punks and Patagonia hiking LARPers, and recounts his own experiences visiting a city that sometimes looks like a Left 4 Dead level.
Ben also takes aim at the way cities deal with homelessness, using increasingly ridiculous hypothetical solutions — from herding people into valleys like buffalo to handing out Killdozers so everyone can finally get to work. The hyperbole is used to satirize the apparent absurdity and inhumanity of some proposed approaches rather than describe literal policies.
Then it’s time for public freakouts: fights, confrontations and arguments that begin over absolutely nothing before escalating into something genuinely dangerous. Ben argues that these incidents don't just make everyone involved look insane — they can reinforce negative stereotypes, make ordinary people feel less safe, and create support for increasingly restrictive responses.
The segment ultimately comes back to conflict avoidance, self-defense, situational awareness, and the reality of having a family to protect when you live somewhere where seemingly trivial encounters can escalate very quickly.
