If we trace the life of Mahmoud Darwish and Yasser Arafat and the relationship between them, we will find that we are in fact tracing the stages of the Palestinian people's struggle and resistance against the occupation—a resistance declared by Arafat through armed struggle and political action, and articulated by Darwish through poetry and dreams. They carried its banner, pursued through capitals, from Palestine to Amman and Cairo, from Beirut to Tunis, and even to Paris and Washington, bearing their people's dreams of freedom, united with the cries of other peoples who suffered the horrors of white colonialism.
