I buy a Vauxhall Astra F with 40k miles on the clock and drive it straight to an MOT test. Will it pass? Will it get me back to Wales? Things didn't entirely go to plan...

What a *score*!
Rustfree, low mileage, powersteering, airbag, decent exterior and interior.
With some fettling and a loving owner this car could go another 10 years.

Once driven forever smitten

Back when vauxhall made engines that last more than 5 to 10 years 😂

£300 is an absolute steal for that! You've done well with that one, Ian 😎

Hope you didn't touch any door handles in Salisbury

Please don't change the date setting, let it stay in 1992. Let it be your little time machine❤

What stood out to me was how tiny it is compared to the modern cars you were parked in between at the service station. How did cars get so bloated ?

I drove a LOT of miles in these things (and Vectras), as a previous employer had a Vauxhall fleet, and used to send me off to Manchester or Chester (from Teesside) for training and meetings, conferences etc. Never missed a beat.

A quirk on these, you pull the headlight switch out to turn on the interior light.

That looks very nice I think you've done well there. I have taken note of the teething troubles you have experienced as I am hoping to get my 1972 Renault 17 back on the road this year, having been off the road since 1985.

$300 . Bloody hell a nice price for this day and age .

40,000 miles on a British 90s car with little to no rust is 👍

It's a tough life being a car YouTuber.
All's well that ends well, you made it home and entertained us.

These were really modern when they came out in 1991, especially the angled dash with the split display. I think they were the first car to have that kind of display, certainly mainstream. I did work experience at an estate agents in 1997 and the boss got a brand new Sport model. It was near the end of its run then but it was still nice. The engine does sound quite sweet for a low powered 30 year old car.

Change all fluids, go over breaks , filters , change valve pan gasket. And rust proof that thing. Cheers

For a car sat around for four years. You have got a little gem. Yes a little bit of love and care.

The first time I drove one of these as a Hertz hire car out of Edinburgh airport in the early 90s was a memorable experience as a late 20's company car driver - it made the then Escort obsolete. Compliant, refined and yet still sporty with an engine that never got the recognition it deserved back then
