Japan's prime minister just met with Deep Purple. She was totally crushing out on them like a little girl. She said she has been always been a big fan.

The drumming is wonderful. Someone had to say it.

I love that when Elizabeth is introducing something she's familiar with to someone else, she's so excited to see their reaction that she can barely contain herself.

It is about war, and the blind man is the person sending the young off to fight.

This came up on my feed, today, April 22nd - it's my dad's birthday but he passed away in his sleep in the early hours of this morning.
He introduced me to this band 30 yesterday ago and this song has been a favourite of mine, since then.
Rest in peace, dad - thanks for all the good times and memories!

Jon Lord was a master of the keyboards. All of that band at that time were masters of their craft. Ian Paice didn't have a huge drum kit because he didn't need it.
Such a great reaction. You 2 are a couple of my favorite reactors and as a collaboration, complete fire with great observations.
5 stars!

Criminal it took so long for them to get into the Hall of Fame.

DP Mark2 (Gillan-Lord-Blackmore-Glover-Paice) created their own genre with the monumental In Rock album. It is a genre of which only they ever played. They were quite simply the greatest group of rock musicians of all-time.

I found this summary of the lyrics. At its heart, “Child in Time” is a warning to the next generation about the realities of war — that it is senseless, destructive, and capable of harming anyone, regardless of innocence or guilt. It’s a call to recognize the moral lines between good and bad, and to be prepared for the chaos that follows when those lines are crossed

I am a 61 year old Brit. And this IS the greatest rock song EVER.

The studio version is even more haunting. and the ending to this was completely improvised, Ian himself didn’t know what he was going to say.

My husband was stationed in Germany some through vietnam era. He was able to see them about 3 times in that period when they were smoking good. He still talks about those live concerts overseas. Stellar. What a lucky guy. group.

Hey, the audience did an excellent job not ruining a great live performance

The vocal transitions and chord changes are exactly like bullets then bombs exploding Gillans voice soaring like a barrage of explosions . Its a very very well crafted song

When u listen to this song the singing puts ure focus on the vocals & when the jam starts u forget all about the vocal. That's why the ending's so good it all comes together!!!!

Jon Lord took the attitude of a lead guitarist when it came to playing the organ.

"Oh. You want to drown me out? Hold my beer!"

The word "ricochet" is the musical and lyrical pivot of the whole piece, moving from the quieter to the louder emotional expression. The vocal gives onomatopoeic emphasis to the consonants and the drums emphasise the echoing riCoCHet in perfect sync.

P.S. the audience are quiet through the piece because A) the TV producers have told them to B) British audiences back then listened to the artists rather than self-indulgently made the performance about themselves with intrusive whoops and whistles 😉.

Deep Purple (especially this Mark2 era of the band) are a bunch of guys who all played jazz band growing up who formed a rock band. (not to be confused with King Crimson, which is an Avant-Garde jazz maestro daring the audience to say he's not playing rock'n'roll)
