I had the great pleasure of listening to Marianne sing for 2 hours right in front of me in late 2011. She even took my song request because it was my birthday and addressed me as "my child". It was an unforgettable (and surreal) night for me.
R.I.P. Marianne. Gone but never forgotten.

If she were working class she would simply have been disregarded as a “junkie”, but she was of the aristocracy which matters in the Arts.

What an absolutely charming woman she was! Many years ago I got a contract to renovate a flat above hers in a block on Chelsea Embankment. She would invite the workers in daily,  for cups of tea and biscuits. She would charm them with tales of her past.

By stark contrast, Diana Ross who lived in the same block, was an absolute cow. She would insist on using the lift alone, her driver blocking anyone from entering. I remember holding the entrance door for as she was being dropped off. I waited for what felt like ages. She climbed up the stairs and swept past me without a thank you, or any acknowledgment. That's my twopenny's worth!

You have a real talent for  relating a story  👏

I went to see her in 1990 or 1991 in The Thrupenny Opera in Dublin. She got out of the taxi behind me and my boyfriend joked with her that she'd be late, and she waved her hand and said Oh there's plenty of time and laughed. She wasn't late on stage either!
Saw her in concert in 2002, she was brilliant. ❤
Great video, thanks.

the video makes you wonder how many women mick jagger drove to despair and death during his life.

Surprised you didn't include the story of the song "Sister Morphine".  She co-wrote it with Mick and Keith and they left her off the credits when the Stones recorded it. She did a legal fight to get the credit back.

Her book, is one of the best books you will ever pick up if you're a fan of rock biographies. It reminds me of Paul Stanley's in that, she's aware she's a monster but she's not aware how it comes off. So she's honest, to a fault. Not mother of the year material - but honest and that matters with bios. Thank you for the video! cannot wait to watch it

“Faithfull” it is such a funny name for a spy 😂

I remember my dear old Nan saying "Oh that terrible Mike Jaygar dragged that poor little girl onto the drugs & damn near killed her."

I remember when I was about ten being madly in love with her.  It's sad to hear what her life was like.  Fame is no guarantee of anything.

If you're doing Junk that's your main most important relationship. No matter who you're with.

Marianne got damaged by the Redlands bust as much as the drugs. She hit rock bottom - but to her great credit she fought her way back slowly but surely. After a few years of barely recording after the Redlands bust she completed ”Rich Kid Blues” in 1971, but it wouldn’t be released until 1985 - her voice was already changing and the years up to “Broken English” from 1979 were hard for her and a bit of a blur. Marianne finally got off the heroin by the time of “Strange Weather” in 1987 and then proceeded to create an amazing body of work. Marianne always had great powers of interpretation in the songs of her choosing and started writing again with greater and greater confidence. Her last album of (mostly) original material was “Negative Capability” from 2018 - a masterpiece which is up there with people like Leonard Cohen and late period Scott Walker, and that was just one of many great albums after “Broken English”. She was a survivor and tough as old boots. I once worked with a guy who was employed by her in some capacity and he only had good things to say about her.
Who would have thought directly after the Redlands bust that it would be Marianne who would become the great artist - and not Jagger. The Stones are of course great - but they were a group. Jagger’s solo work? Laughable.
Excellent video.

Dates a married man then gets offended by his wife being around and him having to lie to her, definitely not wired right, definitely not modest either or faithful despite her name

She was absolutely beautiful!!

Sex, drugs, rock n roll & entitlement. What ever could go wrong?

Such a character. Where are all the interesting people in music nowadays?!

Actually, the album she was poached from the street to make wasn't Dreaming My Dreams/Faithless.
It was an album set to be titled "Masques" recorded in 1971. However, she was in such a bad way that it was shelved. The tracks were released in 1985 as "Rich Kid Blues."
In 1974 Marianne pulled herself together enough to star in the film "Ghost Story," and was encouraged to use her new whiskey-soaked voice to make a country record. Hence, Dreaming My Dreams appeared in 1976, with the lead single going to number one here in Ireland.

The hate mail from those rubes who bought her single reminds me that not much has changed today, aside of the fact that the internet has just made it easier.

Beausoleil was in the Charles Manson family at the time of the murder. Manson was also associated with Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys.
