I'm a Permaculture Designer (Oregon State PDC), Urban Forester (AUFA), and educator who has a 5 year old 1 acre Food Forest Demonstration site on the US Gulf Coast Zone 9a. It's starting to produce fruits and nuts to a level approaching sustainability. I'll try to share progress as it unfolds.

I have been building a water harvesting food forest in the mountains of Colorado for the past 5 years. We took a wildfire burn scar and we're turning it back into a forest!

I am 70 and I am so glad to see a young passionate person showing the way for sustainable food production this century.

Here in Australia we have a farm passed down to the son who changed his drought clay soiled monoculture poisoned land into a lush green farm producing more food than ever before . He spent 3 years and planted over 21,000 trees. This created his OWN weather system and it continues to rain today. Planting trees is absolutely the right thing to do. Convincing monoculture farms to do the same is the issue. Too many farmers who react rather than respond to fear is the problem I think. This is a wonderful story thank you young man, your generation are so inspirational.🙏💕🇦🇺

Trees don't just bring deep roots to the game, enough trees in an area will actually draw down the rain & increase rainfall. And the inverse: where we've deforested & lost old growth to bushfires, the clouds pass right overhead and the rain doesn't fall. Then longer droughts turn soil to hydrophobic dirt & then floods are worse!
I'm in the "wheatbelt" of Western Australia, where a "6 month drought" is just called "summer." Trying to re-green my little patch & learn how to farm the microscopic critters to do the work for me! Subbed because increasing awareness of our "new" understandings of ancient wisdom about soil and biodiversity (as science gradually catches up!) is SO important if humans are to survive our own silly "cleverness!"
Keep up the good work! ❤

Hey, I don't know if you'll see my comment or not, but this is basically my life's mission. I want to take every resource I have to buy as many acres as I can and build a food forest over the course of the rest of my life. I'd like to ask for help, but I don't know where to really turn. But I sincerely appreciate this video and videos like this which share a better and more meaningful path forward, exposing all the corruption and ludicracy that our agricultural industry is pushing on everyone unbeknownst to them. I'm terrified of diseases, pests, fires, and all the things that could go wrong in trying to engineer an ecosystem through science, but I feel for myself personally that this is the way. To help build a world worth living in.

As an arborist working in an urban setting, this video fills me with so much hope. This is what I see the future being both in rural and urban environments. You also did an amazing job with this. Keep going. We need science communicators like you 😊

I really wish you expanded on the monetary pressures pushing farmers toward conventional farming and the economic difficulties of managing and harvesting from an agroforestry system. One of the biggest monetary advantages of conventional farming is the comparatively low amount of labor required because of our increasing industrialization and ballooning size of agricultural vehicals and infrastructure. I think being honest about the increased manpower per acre necessary to harvest from these systems is necessary for us to have productive discussions about how to best incentivize the adoption of these resiliant and often times regenerative practices.

I’m an agriculture teacher with a bachelors in horticulture and a masters in CTE leadership. This is one of the best videos on this topic I’ve ever seen. Maybe THE best. Super informative, beautiful editing and videography, engaging….please keep making videos.

As a long time lover of permaculture, I'm all over this stuff. My main concern is that in many contexts, scaling this this type of agriculture to a point where it can feed modern populations, the harvesting is vastly more labor intensive than in conventional industrial agriculture. When we are mixing our crops (which to be clear I think is a good thing) we can't use the machines we currently use to harvest, so much more will need to be done by hand, and finding enough people who are willing to do that tends to be challenging. Not an insurmountable obstacle, but definitely something to consider.

We bought 33 acres almost 4 years ago . The place was dead. Massive drought going on. I tried growing over 10,000 annual seeds straight off but nothing survived. We had no water to start with basically. The only plant frizzled up but just alive were a handful of bananas. So we started carrying buckets of water to them. They soon came to life. A few years on we have planted around 1500 fruit trees from seed or cuttings. We now have absolute abundance of fruit ranging from bananas ( 1000s) mulberries, oranges, lemons, limes, pineapples , macadamia nuts and around 60 other fruit trees. We have enormous amounts of root crops such as , Cassava, QLD arrowroot, native giant yams. Our place is green often now because of shade. Our food forest only covers 5 acres. The rest is for livestock.

Keep visiting farms that make it work. I'm just crazy old plant lady, in the city with a backyard garden, compost etc., I've learned a lot the past 4 years. You are the future, promote as much as you can, I would like. Thank you

Dude. I am a private chef for NBA and NFL players. I teach them how to improve their health and the way I do it is by buying local food from places I know are connected to the land and soil. This video is amazing. Everything about it. I grew up in Colombia in South America, which is a place where agriculture is everywhere. Food is a huge part of our culture! I live in the US and have a garden that produces more food than I can consume. Thank you for sharing such important content. Much love and respect!

We live in a tent in the woods . We are planning to build a homeless refuge that is going to incorporate farming, anima rescue and address homeless. It's a place where the struggles of survival can be taken away from people and they can focus on themselves and what they are truly capable of becoming in this world. I want to look into this type of farming and incorporate it into this program. I think that everyone and everything can benefit from this . I'm glad this video came across my feed. I will watch and do some more research on this matter. Keep up the good work. Everyone has a place in this world. May love , joy , peace and prosperity be with you.
