I had a gastroscopy last week, they gave me fentanyl and I did not know a thing. I remember the sedation going in the tube, then being wheeled back to recovery, that's it! Marvellous stuff. The video really helped me to see what happens, what the room is like etc, that calmed me a lot beforehand. I am one who prefers to know what to expect. Highly recommend sedation though, it removes any trauma in case you have to have it done again at some point.

Painful, but a relief to know my illness was not life threatening.

I am scheduled for one three days from now...and I do have someone to collect me when it's over 😊

I had an endoscopy that went up my nose into my stomach it was so simple and not even uncomfortable I would recommend anyone getting this to try and get it done this way.

I have had one gastric and two colonoscopies at Arrowe Park Hospital. The second colonoscopy with Dr Ramanadan was an ERM procedure to remove a polyp found by the first one done by Mr Titu.    I had no sedation for either. I was treated with care and respect, and with minimum of discomfort,

Had my first cholonoscapy in 19th march was not as bad as I thought it was going to be nurses  NHS nurses were lovely I was very nervous before it happened the nurse reassured me everything would be ok and it was.   Than I you to NHS staff at QE hospital Newcastle

I just had a OGD, I'm a incredibly anxious person. Had the max dose of sedation and still managed to pull the camera out twice which I remember. After that I remember nothing, next thing I remember was waking up in the recovery room. I also managed to take and send my wife a selfie in the recovery room, which I have no recollection of 🤣

i was sedated but i remember everything and i kept gagging the whole way through it. after they wheeled me into the recovery room they basically got me off the bed and made me sit on a chair until my girlfriend came to pick me up and i was dizzy and wobbly and felt sick while sitting on this chair they didn't take my blood pressure of put a pulse thing on me in recovery. they also didn't help me to get from the bed to the chair when i was having a lot of dizziness...

I didn’t have sedation when I had my endoscopy.  It wasn’t too bad to be honestb

Had it done once never again.

My husband had it done without medication, he said it the worst thing he experience. He said to me make sure you have the  sedation.

I stayed in hospital overnight last night. I had a bit of pork stuck in my throat. Iv never felt so scared until……. they were going to give me a endoscopy. Hell could freeze over and my bitch of a mother could come alive and I’d still not have one. I had one thirty years ago, and yes I know that things have gotten better but apparently I kicked off. Even with sedation they couldn’t do it. I’m happy to say after 12 hours of coughing and gasping and gagging the meat found its own way out. They said I could have one in a few weeks. Nope. I’m sure everyone is different and I wouldn’t want to put anyone off from having one. I’m sure it would be different for everyone. Xx

The headline should say gastroscopy not endoscopy. An endoscopy is the general term for any procedure where a camera looks inside a person’s body after being inserted through an orifice. Thus a gastroscopy looks inside the stomach and small intestine by being inserted through the mouth generally; a colonoscopy looks at the colon after being inserted through the anus and so on.
