Before I get into the full rebuild, I'm tearing down and removing the engine from my 45-year-old Vespa after I made the expensive mistake of running it too lean and completely seizing the motor.

In Project Vespa Part 1, you'll see the full Vespa engine teardown, engine removal, and the beginning of a complete 2-stroke engine rebuild, as I uncover worn bearings, a damaged piston and cylinder, a failing cruciform, mystery performance parts, and years of grime from this high-mileage Italian scooter.

The plan is to rebuild the entire engine with new bearings, seals, gearbox components, and a 177cc big bore kit to create a faster, more reliable classic Vespa.

If you enjoy motorcycle restoration, scooter restoration, DIY motorcycle repair, engine rebuilds, garage projects, and learning from both successes and mistakes, this series is for you.

Subscribe and follow the build as this classic Vespa is transformed from a seized engine into the ultimate street scooter.
