Best focal length to use for most photography.  It encourages the photographer to focus on the story and framing.  I use this focal length for more than 60% of my time.

Thus, I just bought the Leica Q3 43 with it's 43mm (very close to 50mm) and is enjoying it.  It is an excellent camera.

Thanks - might dust off my 50mm lens😊

Excellent advice. My lens for today is 50mm for exactly the reasons you described. I want to improve my photography and not just be someone who owns a camera.

Stunning thank you I was looking fir more lenses but you helped me realize master the tool instead

50mm (or 55 for cheaper cameras) was the widest lens that would work with the mirror box of a single lens reflex camera. This made it more or less standard. Retrofocus lenses were something of a specialty I suppose.

Great video, very inspirational. Thank you!!

I have a 50 f1.8 for some yrs. A couple months ago I bought this quite decent $89 TTa 50 f1.8 Neo w/ a solid plastic/fiber-glass? barrel & no focus ring. It will be good for rainy & foul weather days. (it's a piece of cake compared to film body w/o auto film rewind in a plastic shopper's bag in a snow blizzard in much younger days past).  A test run in the next few days when heavy rain brought in by a rare Sept storm is expected ?  Thinking of whether to get that Viltrox 50 f2 air for optical quality & light-wt & aperture ring at a v.decent price.

Thanks for the nice and inspiring video. I will soon buy a 50mm

Mine may be a very unpopular opinion. I’m using apsc body with several lens that spans 15 to 600mm on 35mm equivalents but I do not frequently use 50mm on my zoom. My preferred prime will be 20mm, 35mm and 100mm. I reckon it may be due to me not shooting still life and abstract, using zoom for food, and prefer a tighter prime for people on the street while wider prime for family. So I think the preference on focal length varies a lot based on choice of subject, choice of framing, and variable distance from subject.

Great video but annoying background music

This has probably already been said, but the 50mm lens is the most natural point of view to the human eye. I prefer the way it looks. A lot of photos are shot on mobile phones and people just use what they have in their hand at the time, which is usually something on the wide end. Most casual phone snappers have no idea about focal length.

Anything else than a 50mm lens !!!

Sorry. I just can't listen to you say fifty m m.
