01:49 The Photo Studio Murder Case

Hello. This is Sounding Bookmark.

I have recently taken out and am rereading an old collection of short stories by author Kim Young-ha that I have cherished and kept throughout my 28 years of living in Canada, despite moving around numerous times.

Whenever I feel life is becoming a bit too relaxed, if I take out this collection published in 1999 and read it thoroughly again, the background of my youth in my twenties unfolds softly. As the author’s characteristic sharp writing style and narrative are added, I wonder if it is because the tension in life somehow feels taut.

This week's audiobook, 'The Photo Studio Murder Case,' features a murder occurring in a place close to our daily lives, and the story unfolds according to the conventions of the mystery genre.

However, as the investigation progresses, the narrative gradually transforms into an outstanding psychological novel by posing questions such as, "How truthfully do humans live?" or rather, "Does truth even exist in the first place?" and by revealing the desires and contradictions within human relationships.

Perhaps the author wanted to make readers look into the wounds and cracks in their own lives, not through the "case" itself, but through the "contradictory human emotions surrounding the case."

Shall we listen together to Author Kim Young-ha's novel, "The Photo Studio Murder Case," from the late 1990s—a time filled with unidentifiable anxiety and uncertainty, alongside a sensual liberalism that ran counter to the order of the established generation? #Audiobook #KimYoungha
