"Everyone else works all day and sleeps at home with their family. We sell that sleep to earn our money."
Sapa drives a truck full of living fish three hundred kilometres through the night, from a pond in northern Bangladesh to a market in Dhaka that opens before dawn. There is no ice on the truck — only a tank of water and a diesel pump keeping it moving, because a fish that arrives dead is worth a fraction of one that arrives alive.
We travelled with him for two days. This is the whole journey: loading in the monsoon rain, the water changed three times on the road, a night highway, a dawn market, and the drive home — where the news of the next trip is already waiting.
Mohammad Safaur Rahman is thirty-nine. He has been in this trade for about fifteen years, and he has been robbed twice on this road. He would not let his daughters near it.
Thank you for watching to the end.
