What I loved most about the original JP and this scene in particular, is that despite the horror/monster movie coding, the T-Rex is just being an animal.

She's not evil, or sinister; she's just a curious animal. Ooh, foody - nice. Oh wait, this hurty thing doesn't hurt anymore. I can finally go through it. Now, what are these things? Territorial roar, because this space is now MINE. Hmm, they're not moving. Ooh, what's that bright thing? Let's have a look and a sniff. Woah, there's more food in there!

She's just a big hungry girly.

The Rex attack is arguably the greatest set piece in cinema. It's literally perfect.

Seeing this at the movies in 1993 was absolutely mind blowing.

The T. Rex's pupil contracting and expanding with still impresses me, knowing this was made in the earl 1990's. There are animations that forget this today.

This movie was an EVENT. When it hit VHS, every kid in my neighborhood went to watch it together immediately after school.

i think Jurassic park is one of the best films ever made

Sound designers literally never get any love and are viciously integral parts to media. Thank you for the bone chilling sound effects!

The sound design of the fence coming down has always stood out to me. Those whipping sounds of the cables snapping followed by the groaning of the pylons. The sound just screams dread
Not just horror or terror. You wonder that if the T-rex can make even metal scream in pain, then what chance do you have? Couple that with the complete lack of a backing score. All you can hear is the sound effects. The thunderous footsteps. The patter of rain muffling anything in the distance- isolating the characters further from the other humans. This whole scene is just magnificent.

This is why practical effects will always remain king.

Now imagine watching that scene in a theater PACKED full of people watching the same experience as you. It was magical!

The way the T-Rex swings it's head down to look at Tim when he closes the car door still gives me chills.

One of the things that I love about this scene, is that if anyone has ever had a cat or a dog, you would know instantly why Grant's use of the flare works perfectly while Malcolm's attempt at distracting the T-Rex fails: millions of years of evolution make predator animals follow prey movement. Grant does exactly what you do when you're playing with your cat with a laser or throwing a frisbee or tennis ball over your dog, it immediately catches their attention and they attack. Whereas with Malcolm, the distraction fails exactly the same as when your dog is trying to play with YOU and you try to throw the ball away - they completely ignore it. Same as when you try to distract your cat with a second string while they're playing with the first: it doesn't work because they are locked in on the first string.

The T-Rex reveal shot also includes the voltage warning sign obscured by the rain on the window, telling us it's meaningless now.

All these years later, all this technology later ... and this movie's visuals still hold up flawlessly.

9:55 Especially with Lex and Tim, the fact they had an actual T Rex THERE and not just a tennis ball sure had to help.

I am old enough to have seen this movie in theaters when I was like 11. Still one of my favorites to this day.  I remember my grandma being confused and asking if the dinosaurs were real. Sometimes Spielberg's work is just pure genius

This scene single handedly set the stage for what multiple generations of people believe that dinosaurs look and sound like and you will never convince us otherwise.

I was 10 Years old when Jurassic Park 1993 was released , the t rex escape scene still blows away..

That entire sequence is what takes a movie from greatness to perfection.

This one scene held back electric cars for 30 years!
