Don't neglect the non-album singles, or you will be missing their greatest hits!

Remember that at this point in time, singles were the market. The Beatles often didn't include the singles (their best songs) on albums. If you focus on albums and skip the singles you'll miss their best stuff-and the foundation of their success.

Just remember that most of their singles are not on the albums. They will need separate listens from the albums.

Before The Beatles we had Frankie Avalon, and a lot of poppy songs with no back beat. The Beatles chose the best influences... Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, and The Everly Brothers... the Brothers music taught them rock harmony.

Ozzy Osborne was right, The day we first heard The Beatles it was like going from Black and White to color!

Notwithstanding their young age, they were quite seasoned performers by the time they released this first album. They had to eat their heart out to survive financially, travelling from Liverpool to perform in Hamburg quite a few times to earn a living.

All great bands have a secret weapon. Here its George on lead. The rhytm chugs along and his flourishes elevate the entire track, and that solo.

NICE. Great ear noticing Paul's bass line simplify for a bar or two to add focus, and then before it's even over it gets right back in the machine and starts cranking again to be ready to hit the next straightaway with the pedal to the metal. ❤🤘

I heard the Beatles before I could talk! I will stop everything to hear a reaction to them, especially anyone how has not really listened to them. The Paul McCartney Bass playing is so Legendary with those 7th Blues chords, their music is the most complex simple pop ever invented. Thx OKC <3

In the USA we never heard this until January 1964 as the flip side to I Want to Hold Your Hand and the "Meet the Beatles" Capital label album.

Paul counted it off at the beginning and is on lead vocals and bass guitar. And I love the intervals that they used for their harmonies; it reminds me of older music. This became a huge hit.

At the time that they recorded these, the Beatles were coming right off of having really been through the wringer as a live dance band and fired in the crucible for multiple years of live shows in challenging environments, often playing many hours a day every day of the week, not making much money, living in squalor, freezing their asses off, being treated like shit by the club owners and landlords, most especially in the Hamburg music scene, where these figures held real power.

There were three main clubs they ended up gigging at the most and being almost considered the house band at various points, but I think it was the club owner and also landlord of the second one, where he screwed them over badly, so they defied him in a small way, and once he figured it out, he actually used his influence to get George Harrison deported back to Liverpool because George was only 17 at the time, and wasn't there legally. And it worked. I think it was like five or six months later that he was able to come back and rejoin the band in Hamburg.

That's just one of many examples. But I hope that once you get through these early albums, or really the first two, then you can react to some of the incredible live black and white footage we have of them from these early years - I you will be fascinated. ❤🤘

You have no idea how revolutionary the Beatles were right from the start. The beat, the bass, the harmonies, the guitar riffs were based on a lot of earlier influences, and even though it sounds rudimentary now, we hadn’t heard anything quite like it before. Their own compositions, like this one, stood out from the covers right from the start.
