“Honor ALL the characters in a story“
you’ve articulated so beautifully something I really needed to know. Thank you, sir!

For me, the mission is to audition – constantly! From there, I should be able to find my voice eventually…

Oh my goodness, this couldn't have come at a better time! I've been struggling with figuring out where I belong in this industry and this helps! Thank you Jay!

Regarding the "I can do it all" mindset: I'm not sure if this applies to voiceover work, but when I was pursuing a career in illustration, I thought it was a strength that I worked in many different styles, until I was told by an art director (the person who makes the decision to use you or not) that this was actually a handicap. They said that art directors are looking for illustrators with one distinctive style, so that they can be confident that that is exactly what they will get if they hire that artist. That's not to say that one shouldn't experiment and explore different styles, just that it might be better to approach a job with just one of those styles rather than hitting them with five different things at once.
I thought your advice in this video was succinct and on point, and made me consider things that I didn't even think about when listening to the audio samples. Thank you!

Hi Jay! I'm JUST getting started in voiceover, hoping to narrate audiobooks primarily. I wanted to submit a sample, but I wanted to know if legally it was okay to read from a book or if it needs to be royalty free. Thanks in advance! I really appreciate your content and all your encouragement for up-and-comers. Please keep it up man

Hey man, I really appreciate you and your channel. Thanks for all the work you’ve put into it. However, I will say that I’ve tagged along for a year or more and I really just feel like your information and content is extremely vague. And I mean that as constructive feedback not to bash you or your channel. I just keep waiting for some hard facts, tips, or some real meaty info on how to break into the industry, audio settings, equipment reviews, etc—but it is just very vague. I’m not sure what to take away from ‘find your voice’ with ‘lean into it’ you know?

Maybe it’s more of a style compatibility than a real issue? Anyway I thank you for the vids and wish you the best! ❤
