Volker Pispers, the sharpest tongue in Germany. Unfortunately, his political statements cannot be dismissed out of hand. He gets straight to the point. The Program is old, but still relevant. Greetings from Germany.
This program was recorded in 2004, almost twenty years ago. Merkel only became German chancellor in 2005 but Pispers was already roasting her back then. 😂
Volkers shows are NOT comedy but satire. Also this is a history lesson for everyone he guessed in this show. Of course he wrapped it like comedy. Keep in mind that the winner writes history to his advantage (history books). Volkers remarks depend on real history. But so is the point of view from "outside". I wrote it several times before, but if you want more objective news about your own country read news from foreign countries about your country. That works for every country in this beautyful world!
Love your reactions because of your open mind! Keep going on! 4 more parts to go. Many names of german politicians and sometimes you need the geographical and historical background, to completely understand his kind of humor. His show about capitalism is a must.
I know this hurts. It always hurts when you're confronted with the idiocy of a government that does things in your name, even if you don't agree with them. Especially when you're faced with present day consequences of actions committed by idiots way before your own birth that still echoes down history right until today. You can't do anything about the past, you're not guilty for what happened before. You're only responsible to try to change what's happening right now.
But now you may have a glimpse into how Germans feel about our own history. Anyone born after WW2 has no guilt for actions committed back then. But most Germans feel a sort of second-hand shame and embarrassment for it, as well as a responsibility to make certain something like that never happens again.
Edit: Volker Pispers has a PhD in history, so what he is saying is accurate. Sure, he puts his spin on it for comedic effect. But this is typical for German political cabaret. It is brutally honest satire, sometimes stepping into cynicism. But usually whatever they say is factually true. Because by staying factually true they can't be critically targeted or sued for defamation and slander. In Germany the freedom of expression ends where someone impugns the dignity and honor of someone else which is the highest human right: human dignity. So satirists have to be careful not to make factually wrong claims. How they spin the story to make it both entertaining AND enlightening is limited by the skill and talent of the satirist. Volker Pispers was one of the best in his field.
watch the rest :) it's a good lesson on recent global history and a reckoning what the A-list players in international power-politics of our lifetime have been up to... and it's not comedy as in jokes and making fun of people, it's political satire: spitting ugly truths about the peole in power in such a way so that you tensely want to hear more, then releasing the tension with some word play, irony, sarcasm, pointing out how absurd and ridiculous and contradictory and hypocritical our leaders and their actions can be...
Its not Comedy young man . We in Deutschland have a long tradition called political cabaret. And dont get it wrong "the Americans" are not you and your fellow countrymen. Its the political industrial military complex that plays the games Pispers is talking about.
One can see that you did not feel too well with the fires shot toward the US, but I'm glad you decided to continue with part 2 anyway! He's rather a political cabaret artist than a comedian, so there might be some exaggerations, but actually he's rather acurate regarding the facts but put them in words that sound comical to absurd, making people laugh but think about at the same time. He's enormously intelligent and knowledgeable, and while this show is almost 20 years old (Gerhard Schröder was the chancellor before Angela merkel, who was in power for 16 years), in the past 2 years quite some Americans reacted to this show. And all the while he fires his shots in all directions, including his own country, "Jeder kriegt sein Fett weg", as we say in Germany.
If you think America is acting like that "to keep the international peace" you dont know anything about American interventions in the last 70 years and didnt understand a single thing Pispers is saying here.
Volker Pispers was one of the best comedians Germany had to offer. Straight, direct and complete sarcastic. The trouble is, every single thing he said for the future, he was right. We laughed and it did happen. It's a shame as he retired as a comedian.
Greetings from Germany.
