The Indonesian Army (TNI) carried out another land clearing operation in the neighborhood unit (RW) 10 area, Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (June 9, 2026). A commotion erupted when officers, accompanied by police, attempted to open the fence held by residents who were refusing to vacate the land.
During the eviction process, several sick residents had to be evacuated by ambulance. The situation at the location became tense when some residents remained in their homes and refused to leave the area being cleared.
The Director of General Guidance at the Indonesian Army Engineering Center, Colonel CZI Nur Alam Sucipto, stated that his office had given residents ample time to vacate the buildings standing on land owned by the TNI AD.
"The third warning letter was issued on July 31, 2025. After issuing the SP3, we gave the residents more time to vacate their homes," said Nur Alam.
He explained that of the 152 families previously occupying the area, 45 had voluntarily vacated their homes after receiving information and facilitation from the Indonesian Army (TNI AD). Currently, 107 families remain as targets of the eviction. He explained that the 4.4-hectare land will be used to build apartments for TNI AD soldiers, and the eviction process is expected to last five days.
Meanwhile, the residents' attorney, Bambang Kurniawan, stated that the residents have no issue with the ownership of the land, which is a state asset. However, they hope the government will provide a solution in the form of relocation or adequate compensation before the eviction takes place.
"They are aware that this land belongs to the state; they are only working it. They just want to be relocated to a more suitable location. If relocation is not possible, they are only asking for compensation," Bambang said. He added that his team is filing the case in court to provide a mediation opportunity between the residents and the TNI to find the best solution for the affected residents.
