You're at war. Or rather, your country is at war. You and your three kids have taken shelter in the basement of a hospital, hoping it's safe. You've been living there for 39 days without seeing the light of day, crammed in with over 300 other people. If you can even call it living... You haven't showered in days, access to water is extremely limited, and you're only eating one meal a day. But those aren't the biggest problems, you get used to them. The worst part is that you can still hear everything happening outside. Bombs are going off, the ground is shaking, buildings are collapsing, and you can hear the sound of bullets striking concrete and metal. Hundreds of patients are brought into the hospital every single day. Most of them don't make it. The ones who do are usually rushed into surgery amidst moans and screams. And your children—the youngest is only four—are seeing, hearing, and living through all of this. And there's absolutely nothing you can do to protect them from it. That's what really tears you apart.

O zamanlar askerdim.
Arkadaşlarım yanımda ölüyorlardı. Bazı arkadaşlarım füzeyle vuruluyordu. Param-parça oluyorlardı gözümün önünde.
Bazılarının bacaklarını, bedenlerini bir kaç yüzmetre ileride buluyorduk.
Bazen beden parçasından değil, ayakkabılarından buluyorduk kim olduklarını.Askerlik zamanı ayakkabılarımızı kolay bulmak için ayakkabılarımızın içine ismimizi yazıyorduk.
Ayakkabı içine sıkışmış bacağını ve ayakkabının kendini kontröl edip, böyle tespit ediyorduk.
