For over 10 years, we’ve been regularly visiting the Kaltenberg Knights’ Tournament – one of the largest and most famous medieval festivals in Germany! Every year, we dive into the world of knights, jesters, and musicians – and 2024 was amazing once again.
Last year, we attended on the very first weekend, on a Saturday. Unfortunately, we’ve never experienced the legendary Jesters’ Night on Friday – but it’s considered a true highlight for medieval fans and is at the very top of our list for next year!
We always book our tickets online – it’s quick and easy. Parking costs €5 per car and is paid directly on site. As soon as you enter the festival grounds, you feel transported to another era – the smells from the taverns, the medieval camps, the music – it’s truly unique!
Everywhere you look, you’ll find performers, entertainers, acrobats, and live musicians creating an authentic medieval atmosphere. The Kaltenberg Knights’ Tournament never disappoints – neither adults nor children!
Vegetarian food? No problem!
Even as a vegetarian, you’ll find plenty of delicious options: cheese spaetzle, Schupfnudeln (German potato noodles), dumplings, or a vegetarian cheese burger in a bun – all incredibly tasty. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s delicious ice cream (my recommendation: Bavarian Cream flavor) and, of course, freshly roasted almonds from the confectionery stand.
Drinks are traditionally served in clay mugs – they not only look great but also keep your beverages cool for a long time. The deposit can be up to €10, but it’s worth it!
During the grand parade across the grounds, all groups and performers present themselves – perfect for getting an overview. With the program booklet in hand, you can then head straight to the stages and shows of your choice: fire breathers, jugglers, live music, knight battles, and much more!
Among the performers were: Corvus Corax, ConFilius, The Witch Roxana, Tanzwut, Des Teufels Lockvögel, Oro, Weibsvolk, The Black Knights, and Maxx the Jester.
The grand knights’ tournament in the arena is, of course, the main highlight. For younger children, the show might feel a bit long, but we recommend standing at the very top to watch the grand entrance and the first scenes – goosebumps guaranteed!
In the evening, various live bands on multiple stages create an incredible festival atmosphere – the perfect way to end the day with music and mead.
