Maria Simma: For 64 Years the Dead Came to Her Every Night
For sixty-four years, from the age of twenty-five until her death at eighty-nine, an Austrian laywoman named Maria Simma said that the souls of the dead came to her every night. They told her why they were suffering — and what they needed to be set free.
Maria Simma (1915–2004) was born in the tiny Alpine village of Sonntag, Vorarlberg, Austria. Rejected by three convents for poor health, she lived alone in a wooden house at the edge of the village. In 1940, a figure appeared in her room at three in the morning. It was, she said, the first of hundreds. Over six decades, she recorded their testimonies in interviews and books that sold over three hundred thousand copies worldwide — yet the Catholic Church never formally approved or condemned her experiences. This documentary examines her life, her claims, her critics, and the question she said the souls asked most often: does anyone still pray for me?
