Originally we dashed off to the Tottori Sand Dunes for the "Desert Titanium" iPhone 16, but a typhoon meant the phone never arrived, so we set off with the Fujifilm X100 VI we'd queued a long time for instead. This video documents a three-day, two-night flash trip: the shock of driving straight onto mountain roads the moment we left Momotaro Airport, Senganmatsushima on the Uradome coast, Conan Airport and Hakuto Shrine, and the Kurayoshi Shirakabe Storehouses — as beautiful as Kyoto but without a single tourist. And the one minute of golden light we waited for at the dunes at six in the morning was probably the world Shoji Ueda saw. As for the two downpours that came after, and that accidental X100 VI waterproof test, that's another story so miserable all you can do is laugh.
