Really loved what you had to say. I have FND. So much of it made sense. Yes everyone is different, I was finally diagnosed with it after many many years of different types of symptoms until I eventually had heaps at the same time.
Thank you for so muck info. I will definitely be re watching this many times. If I ever end up with severe memory loss again & can’t remember I will have your & Dr Stones talks to go back on to re educate myself on FND as has been written down as must haves & also saved. Again Thank You

Hi Allan thank you for your talk, I found it fascinating.  You may not remember me but I remember you when you arrived at Rosslynlee Hospital (I was a secretary to Dr Idwal Evans, Eileen Hay) which must be 30+ years ago and this was your first post on graduating from Medical School.  I know also that you worked at the Robert Fergusson Unit at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.  You have certainly enjoyed a successful career - congratulations.

Your DecodeME review sounded less like balance and more like minimising. Every point you made — misdiagnosis risk, PEM definitions, comorbidities, replication — was already acknowledged by the DecodeME team. These are standard caveats in any complex disease study, not intelligent reasoning.

The real breakthrough is that despite those challenges, strong genetic associations were still found in immune/metabolic pathways. That’s historic: it shows ME/CFS has biological roots, not psychological causes. Patients deserve cautious optimism, typical scientific caveat, which lacks originality and fails to push the study in any meaningful direction. Basically, your input was a “filler”.

Scientists who use common sense to revert to a default negative bias are reputation fence sitters. I suggest you watch “the dead poets society” again my friend 🙂
