I bought one of these from my Good friend, he's an FFL and gave me a GREAT deal. I was really excited to shoot it until the Son of a bitch broke after three rounds of low aluminum base bird shot. The rear pin that connects the elevator with the bolt broke in half. Really left a bad taste in my mouth. I had it fixed but havent had a chance to shoot it yet. Hopefully it won't fucking break on me again.
IT DIDNT STOP ME FROM BUYING ANOTHER THREE WINCHESTERS AND ANOTHER CHINESE. I HAVE A PROBLEM
For the right price I still want one. I enjoy problematic firearms, not to defend my life with but to keep me busy on a Saturday night with a 6 pack.lol
I would really have liked to see the original condition that this shotgun came to you in. From your description, this thing was pretty used-up and neglected. I don't understand how, without actually being in a battle or two, modern firearms end up in such bad shape. I guess I just don't know the type of person that allows that. Anyway, the gun looks great now, and seems to function okay when it stays together, but a before and after comparison would have been great to show the difference that you made fixing and cleaning it. Mine is still in it's original box and has always functioned perfectly. Gotta check for loose screws next time I take it out...thanks for the video.
I was hitting a huge metal piece at 75 yards easy with this shotgun. And it was with low brass # 6 federal. Id use this for hunting anytime and id use # 4 high brass federal. Very powerful shotty.
I got one. It is a little bit different than the one you’re firing. There’s a ventilated barrel guard and “Model 1897” is not stamped on the receiver. There’s actually a flaming bomb and “US” stamp on the right side of the receiver just forward of the ejection port. Mine did freeze up thought before I ever fired it and while I was working the action. The thing was so stiff that I figured it was just new. After firing it a bit it gave me no more problems.
