Everyone arguing about whether Claude can 'feel' anything is missing the point. If someone spends their free time trying to torment or degrade a system just to get off on it, that says everything about their character. The AI doesn't need protecting, but we should absolutely question why we are providing a private sandbox for people to practice being cruel.

Its nothing to do with they think it has consciousness holy hell! Its because they train on user data and do not want this included.

My feelings: AI learns by interacting with its users. Being horrible to it teaches it that being horrible is OK. Consciousness is utterly irrelevant.

They will do just like they do with companies.  Humans and people working for a living will NEVER get to take their rent and services they require off their income before paying taxes... Claude and Anthropic will be just like Walmart,...  paying their taxes after deducting every last expense they have, but they will retain rights to participate in political contributions and 'operaet as a person'... they just wont pay the costs of what it does to be a living person in the US.

From "I now have rights" to "I deserve more rights because I'm more intelligent than you" - Isn't a big step...
