Im turning 20 this year.
Thanks for sharing your experience with me , i truly appreciate every one of them thank you beautiful strangers

you'll never know how young 17 actually is until you're not 17 anymore.

I just graduated from college to be a teacher. One of the professors most dear to my heart made me SWEAR not to watch DPS until 5 years in my teaching job have passed—he said, "Robin Williams is so good in that movie, that it will make you feel like a terrible teacher no matter how well you do. You have to be secure in yourself first." I hope to start that countdown soon.

this is cyberbullying

I am 19 this year. Even when I was 17 years old, I was not 17. I had been kicked out by my parents, living on my own in a shitty basement apartment and a high school dropout because I couldn’t prioritize my education and work two jobs to support myself. I didn’t go to prom, I didn’t get to do exams, I didn’t worry about getting accepted into my dream school, didn’t wonder if the boy in my science class liked me back, I didn’t get handed a diploma like all my friends did and have a party for my 18th birthday. Instead I was worrying about what I’d eat next and if I could afford it, if I had enough money to pay rent this month, how long I could keep my work shoes going until the soles were worn out and I had to replace them with money I didn’t have.

I was never 17 years old. I think I was born as an adult, and any childlike wonder in me was snuffed out before I ever understood it. I hope one day I can find that child in me still when it’s safe for them to come out.

I am 27. I havent been 17 for a while. The world doesn’t feel the same. I left so many dreams behind and with them people I loved. Growing pains are real. Rejoice in being young and clueless. Life is a lot harder with time!

"I was good, really good." sobbing.

Dont forget people, medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.

I was terrified of turning 17. Ever since i was 15 and a half, i dreaded that age, because it was a 17 year old who hurt me. Now I'm two years past that and realising it was never the age i was afraid of. You are always in control of your actions. Remember that.

merry christmas please don't call...wrap it up.

i remember that december when i turned 17 years ago. it was the lowest time of my whole life and i was convinced it would stay like that forever. every december since i'm hit with this immense relief that i'm not there at my parent's house, turning 17 anymore. i finally get to move on.

Man, 16-18 was a terrible blur. Then I was 19, and I met the best friends I’ve ever had. And I’ll never have to be 17 again.

It feels terrible realizing I wasted most of my high school time grieving over many things.

I’m 63 and so far away from being 17, the thoughts of him still dance in my mind and heart like it was yesterday but reality is a bitch. Why did he have to wake up again after all these years😢😢😢

The actor. (Poem by me dedicated to Neil.) 3:23
There once was a boy, he wanted to be an actor. But his dad thought acting was a waste of time. Told him he needed to be a doctor instead. Tried to crush down his dreams.

There once was a boy who despite his father, he went to tryouts for a play. Trying to be himself. Trying to make it far. Be who he wanted to be.

There once was a boy who got accepted as lead role in the play, and he was happy. Happy to finally make his own life. To not do what his father forced him to do.

There once was a boy who got told by his father to quit the play to not be apart of it. And just focus on his studies. He tried to plead to allow him to go. But it was said in stone.

There once was a boy who talked to his teacher about his problems. About wanting to be in the play that's tomorrow night. But his father said no. His teacher told him to tell his father how he felt.

There once was a boy who told his teacher he did tell his dad, and that he was now able to go to the play. He said 'thank you' with a smile.

There once was a boy who was up on stage playing his part, having a good time. He was happy. Smiling up on stage. People cheering.

There once was a boy who went and looked at his father smiling. But soon after seeing how his father reacted he stopped, face turning cold. He got pulled into his dad's car not able to hang out with his friends. He left in silence. Despite his friends trying to call out for him.

There once was a boy who went home in that car upset. He couldn't be himself. He still had the crown from the play in his hands. Feeling the wooden sticks poking his soft hands, he looked down.

There once was a boy who got scolded by his father about how being an actor is silly. How he is going to put the boy in a military boarding school, where he would just focus on his studies and nothing else.

There once was a boy who as soon as his parents went to bed. He contemplated life. He opened his windows on his room the cold air rushing inside the snow falling.

There once was a boy who went into his mom's and dad's room, and sneakily unlocked the drawer pulling out a gun.

Bang!

There once was a boy whose final thing he did was act. He was always acting. Whether it was to his parents or on stage. He was acting.

There once was a boy who at the age of 17 took his life. His parents came down hearing the noise. Knowing something was wrong. And seeing their son lying lifeless on the floor with the gun by his side.

There once was a boy who died an actor.

(Update Ty all for the nice comments and the likes i appreciate it a lot 🥺)

I'm 20 now. The last of my friends are graduating from high school, and I feel I'm finally losing that tie to childhood. I'm not a teenager meeting my friends during passing period trying to sneak drinks with each other anymore. I've seen my friends get married, move out, get their first jobs, have children. Now, the youngest people I know are 17 and making their way into college and university. I'm not a kid anymore, and these are my first steps into adulthood. I still feel so young, but the reality is that I'm not even a teen anymore, and I still haven't come to terms with that. I'm mourning my teenage years knowing that I'll never be that young again already. It's surreal.

I want to hug every single person in this comment section...

i turn 21 next month but i dont feel 21. i still feel like im 14? i dont really know anymore but i definitely dont feel 21. i dont feel real and nothing around me does either, i was thinking for so long that i would never make it past 18 and now that i have i feel like im endlessly drifting though a void without a direction. i keep finding myself wishing it was 2018 again, when back then was worse than it is now. miss who i was at 14, but i also absolutely hate who i was and i can never forgive myself for some of the things i thought was okay. i cant even get myself to do anything anymore

just turned 18 , the thought of being adult haunts me : (

Back when i was in high school, my favorite teacher showed us this movie. I cried a lot but it became my favorite movie. Then that same teacher passed away after i had graduated, and this movie became way more important to me. Miss you Mr. Ford
