What if the ability Chrollo is trying to steal to defeat Hisoka is One of the Guardian Nen-Beasts? And he plans to use it to make himself the immortal head of the spider for all eternity?!

His real plan is aquiring Basho's ability, and then use skillhunter to combine ot with the ability to write the best haikus in the world. He'll be unstoppabble after that.

I have absolutely no idea how Togashi keeps up with all this. It’s hard for me sometimes as a reader, but I can’t imagine putting together such a complicated story and still somehow making it make sense to the reader and he’s doing a very good job.

I really wonder if Chrollo stealing the sacred treasures might actually stop the competition itself. It’s such a Togashi thing to setup such a complicated competition and us not seeing an expected resolution to it.

Best theory I’ve heard is that Chrollo needs to level up Skill Hunter to be able to use abilities that require zetsu to activate, perhaps by turning the actual book into a Nen reserve like Tseri’s Nen beast so that Skill Hunter can continue to have a source of Nen to power the ability even when Chrollo is in zetsu. In this case it wouldn’t be an arbitrary power up, but something deeply rooted in the mechanics of Nen.

The biggest issue I'd say I have with this is that I don't think it lines up with Chrollo's mentality. In fact, I think it completely contradicts it.
Benjamin's GSB matches him. It makes sense that its ability would be to preserve him because Benjamin believes himself to be very, very important. He considers himself to be the only one worthy of being king and thus indispensable.
Chrollo is the exact opposite. Chrollo believes he is completely dispensable. He fully believes that it's fine if he goes away, and he still holds that belief even now as we see in his inner monologue. That's why he would never think to preserve himself. Because that would be admitting that he actually is indispensable and must continue to watch over the spider. I don't think he would ever do that.
Although, I will say one thing about this theory. The thing that makes me doubt all the theories about which ability Chrollo is going to steal is that none of the abilities on the BW1 that we have seen prior to chapter 417 are THAT insane. Sure, there are plenty of very powerful abilities, yes. But none of them have felt like they were so amazingly powerful that Chrollo would need to upgrade Skill Hunter. Benjamin's GSB, however, might be the ability that best fits that criteria.

Doesnt make sense to me. Nobody could have known what Benjamins nen beast would be before anyone stepped on the boat

The confusing thing about this Nen ability is that when Chrollo is the one choosing who hosts it, it's easy to find [the host]. But if the ability itself is the one that chooses its host, then it becomes hard to find the host.

i think the main problem would be the conditions for stealing an ability with skill hunter, namely the one where he needs to see it in action because by that point benjamin will have already fused with it

This ability probably isnt the one Chrollo is after right now, but would probably be a plan B. If other members of the Spiders start dying Chrollo might shift his goal from getting revenge on Hisoka to protecting the Spider in general. Chrollo's phone ability could direct him to it if he just told it to search for an ability that would protect the Spiders.
You forgot to mention what this ability could actually do. Not only would it pick a new head of the Spider once Chrollo was dead, but it would give them access to Skill Hunter and/or a version of Benjamin Baton. The Spider's version of Benjamin Baton could let the head use the abilities of the troop members that have been killed.
As far as the blood relative part, the conditions Chrollo is having to reach to gain this ability are so high anything is really possible. I could see Skill Hunter getting an edit ability. Conjuring a pencil that lets him tweak the ability slightly. With added conditions it could let him change the interpretation of the ability he has stolen. i.e. blood relatives could be edited to just be the users concept of family. We saw how much the original users definitions of things caused Chrollo so much trouble with order stamp and how many hoops he had to jump through just to make it work the way he wanted; thats certainly on Chrollo's mind.
I just want to see Chrollo steal a GSB, and seeing Benjamin's 1 in a million chance plan actually work out only to be screwed over by Chrollo at the last minute would be awesome.

I think Benjamin’s Guardian Spirit Beast ability may be connected to Chrollo’s objective in a much deeper way than it initially appears, and not necessarily because Chrollo wants to use it directly against Hisoka. After the recent revelations about the nature of this ability, an extremely interesting possibility emerges: perhaps Chrollo wants to evolve Skill Hunter not only so that he can steal an ability powerful enough to kill Hisoka, but also so that he can alter the conditions of a stolen ability and turn it into something that guarantees the survival of the Spider itself.
We know that Chrollo is searching for Kakin’s three sacred treasures because possessing them will allow him to evolve Skill Hunter. The manga has not yet explicitly revealed what this evolution actually means. We only know that Chrollo needs an evolved version of Skill Hunter in order to steal the ability he is after. And this is where I think the word “evolve” may be much more important than it initially seems. Perhaps it is not simply about increasing the number of abilities Chrollo can keep or bypassing some of the existing stealing conditions. Perhaps it allows him to interact with the conditions of the stolen ability itself in a way that he previously could not.
And this is what makes Benjamin’s Guardian Spirit Beast so interesting to me.
Based on what has been revealed, this ability does not simply disappear when its current host dies. After Benjamin’s death, his existence becomes integrated with the Guardian Spirit Beast, and the ability continues through a chosen successor. When that successor eventually dies, another successor can take over, and the process continues. In other words, the ability is not dependent on one individual surviving. It is fundamentally built around continuity and succession. The individual dies, but the function and the ability continue.
And this creates an enormous parallel with Chrollo’s philosophy and the Spider.
For Chrollo, the individual is not the most important thing. The members of the Spider are replaceable, and even Chrollo himself is replaceable. What must survive is the Spider. Therefore, an ability that allows something to continue through the deaths of its successive hosts seems almost perfectly suited to the philosophy of the Phantom Troupe.
This leads to the most interesting part of the theory: what if evolving Skill Hunter allows Chrollo to alter the conditions of the ability he steals?
Imagine that the ability, in its original form, follows a specific succession system: Benjamin, then the person he chooses, then that person's successor, and so on. But after stealing it with an evolved Skill Hunter, Chrollo could potentially modify the fundamental condition that determines who the “successor” is.
Instead of the successor being a specific individual, the successor could become the Spider itself.
The succession would therefore no longer simply be Benjamin, then one person, then another person. It could become something like Chrollo, then a host representing the Spider, then another host representing the Spider after that person dies, and then another, continuing indefinitely. In that case, the ability would no longer be tied to the life of a single individual. It would be tied to the identity of an entire organization.
And that would fit Chrollo incredibly well, because you could kill the person carrying the ability without actually killing the thing the ability belongs to. You could kill Chrollo, then kill his successor, then kill the person who comes after him, but as long as there is someone who fulfills the condition of being “the Spider,” the ability would continue to be passed on.
The Spider would essentially become immortal.
This could also explain why Chrollo needs to evolve Skill Hunter instead of simply searching for a powerful ability. If his only goal were to obtain a stronger offensive ability, it would be difficult to explain why he needs something as elaborate as Kakin’s sacred treasures. But if he wants to steal an ability connected to a succession system and then alter its conditions so that it becomes attached to an entity rather than an individual, then we are talking about a genuinely fundamental evolution of Skill Hunter.
Of course, the manga has not confirmed that Chrollo can actually change the conditions of a stolen ability in this way, so this remains a theory. But the idea becomes particularly compelling when we look at the themes Togashi has built into the Succession War. The entire conflict revolves around what survives after an individual dies: the throne is inherited, power is inherited, abilities are inherited, and wills are passed from one person to another. At the same time, we have Chrollo, the leader of an organization whose philosophy is essentially that the individual is expendable, while the entity itself must survive.
That is why I think Benjamin’s Guardian Spirit Beast could be perfect for Chrollo, but not necessarily for his fight against Hisoka.
Perhaps Chrollo has two separate objectives. The first is to obtain the ability that will allow him to kill Hisoka permanently. The second, and potentially deeper objective, is to ensure that Chrollo’s own death does not mean the end of the Spider.
And that would fit his philosophy perfectly. Chrollo does not necessarily need to live forever. What he needs is for the Spider to live forever.
In that case, Chrollo may not want to steal Benjamin’s ability exactly as it exists. Instead, he could be trying to use the principle behind it as a blueprint: an ability that does not die with its user, but continuously passes to whoever represents the entity to which it belongs.
If Chrollo could make the Spider itself that entity, he would have achieved something far greater than simply stealing a powerful Nen ability. He would have created a kind of Nen legacy capable of surviving through generations of Spider members.
And this makes Chrollo’s statement about evolving Skill Hunter much more significant. Perhaps he is not simply trying to become stronger so that he can defeat Hisoka. Perhaps he is trying to make Skill Hunter capable of stealing something it cannot currently steal under its existing conditions, and then fundamentally redefining the relationship between an ability and its owner.
Ultimately, the difference between Benjamin and Chrollo could be simple but profound: Benjamin wants to ensure the continuity of Kakin through succession, while Chrollo may want to ensure the continuity of the Spider through succession.
Benjamin wants to make sure that the country does not die with its ruler.
Chrollo may want to make sure that the Spider does not die with its leader.
And if this theory is correct, Benjamin’s Guardian Spirit Beast could become one of the most important abilities Chrollo could ever obtain—not because it would make him stronger against Hisoka, but because it could give him something even more important:
a way to make Chrollo’s death insufficient to kill the Spider.

The nen abilities in this arc are so crazy. Chrollo getting his hands on any of them would be an absolute nightmare
@c.qcumber2286 1 month ago
the prince and chrollo perfectly parallel eachother, chrollo came from trash and is a second class citizen (really not a citizen at all because children of meteor city arent legally recognized) who has a large following while the prince is royalty and has a following that will die for him as well. The way the two compare and contrast is so perfectly written especially because togashi has specifically developed the succession war to highlight the cruelty and unfairness of the world. Theres also a few panels that emphasize this by highlighting the difference in food quality from the upper tiers of the black whale to the lower tiers who have to eat rubbish.

About the leaking infos, hear me out : Chrollo <-- Pariston <-- Beyond <-- Kakin's stuff. And don t ask me why I blame Pariston.
Also, I m not sure if Chrollo WANTS to JUST die. I believe he's after something related to post mortem nen, as this whole arc + Hisoka himself is about that. He might plan to die but revive himself. Benjamin's nen beast just formed after the contest started so it's kinda hard to deal with that fact, but....not Camilla's Cat. She had it beforehand. And it will also explain HOW he would get rid of Hisoka for good.
