CORRECTION: The Innocents (1961) should absolutely be on this list, but I completely forgot that it came out this decade. For some reason that film seems older to me. So throw that it, and this is my Top 31! 😅

When I saw The Haunting for the first time as a kid in the 70s, it permanently altered my brain chemistry. Along with the novella it turned me into a lifelong horror and haunting fan

Even though many people worked on "Rosemary's Baby", the movie wouldn't have been such a masterpiece without Polanski as a director. His typical claustrophobic style of someone fighting against a whole world of danger was perfect for that story. Think whatever you want about that man, but HE made this movie.

Fun fact: Roger Corman actually did cite Bergman's "The Seventh Seal" as an aesthetic influence on "Masque of the Red Death."

I love any mystery/horror with Vincent Price

I'm 66, so your reviews of these oldies from my childhood warm my heart. As Uncle Creepy might say, keep up the ghoulish work!

I absolutely love 13 ghosts from the 60s

After decades of seeing that final scene a dozen times in every single horror movie list that exists, I FINALLY watched the entire ROSEMARY'S BABY just last week for the first time. And I was blown away. Even knowing the iconic ending I still found the movie itself to be so well-made, well-paced, and well-ACTED that it gripped me all the way through. Mia Farrow is absolutely FANTASTIC in it. Her performance really draws you in and you feel her frustration as she has ZERO agency. Like, at NO point in this movie does she ever have a modicum of control over her own life, even in the most mundane of things. Great movie!

Black Sabbath has always stuck with me. I still cannot stand to hear a dripping tap.

I saw Black Sabbath when I was very young. The old woman segment scared the crap outta me. Still creeps me out and I'm 65.

60's were a great time for schlock horror and sci-fi movies - can't get enough of 'em.

The original Cape Fear scared me to death! It’s still one of my all time favorite movies. The performances and the perfect tension of the film are beyond outstanding. Holds up still to this day ❤

Night of the Living Dead is one of the few movies that actually scared me, best horror film of the 60's for me. Island of Terror would be my number 2.

RP is/was such an awful creep, but it's hard to deny that Rosemary's Baby is an awesome movie.

I'm with you. The sixties was a ripely diverse decade for horror cinema. Colour, post '67 cinematic permissiveness. A really revolutionary period for cinema and the world.

@Philtration 2 years ago

You don't have to see the baby in Rosemary's Baby.
The look of horror on her face and asking "What have you done to it's eyes?" is enough.

I love those oldies, like The conqueror worm, The Pit And the Pendulum. Peter Lorry was outstanding as the supporting horror presenter, and no-one can do it like Vincent did it, may he RIP. cheers

The 1960s was the height of the Hammer Film Productions vs. American International Pictures era, where the Hammer gothic horror films with Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee from Great Britain were competing against the American International gothic horror films with Vincent Price from the United States.
