I think that Dante was both he was a seriously famous renaissance man and a Calvary man fighting wars in various Italian states. But you see I think the wars that he fought in inspired him to write his most famous book called Dante’s Inferno. Because as the old saying goes war is hell. Other than that as you said he inspired Italians to unite together as one nation called Italy during Italy’s wars for unification after his death. He brought the Italian language more into literature instead of just putting Latin into literature which most people know (Latin) was the language of the church at that time. Anyways Dante was a very great writer and his legacy will live on for an eternity. Thank you very much for the video.

The poet Guido Cavalcanti, although Dante’s senior, became “the first among [his] friends,” as Dante records in La vita nuova (c. 1292; Vita nuova, 1861; better known as The New Life), and his literary adviser.

How absolutely fascinating. I truly had no idea that Dante essentially codified the Italian language. Wish YouTube had been around when I was in college. I remember studying about the Guelphs and being confused as heck. This lays it out. Of course, I had more than Guelphs on my mind in college. Love the Divine Comedy. Still utilize pertinent quotes from it, just to confuse my friends.

I am playing the song "Ezio's Family" in the background as I am listening to this. Florence is a great city indeed.

An excellent interesting & informative documentary ; long overdue about one of the best authors of the Rennausance. The background details given are fascinating & filled in a lot of gaps in my knowledge. Many thanks.
