Gentlemen, this was a joy. I put in AirPods, did some yard work and had a great. I’ve mentioned before you guys are helping me get back into historical wargaming and my buck list is to play Here I Stand with you guys someday. Grant responded we’ll be at WBC. I’m using your posting to reach out to anyone in Orange County, California looking to form group to play games, goal is to one day have our own basement con. Again, well done gentlemen!

Appreciate your kind comments on All Are Brothers. So glad you enjoyed the game!

Grant, thank you so much for your high praise of China's War!
I understand your take on it as something "fresh" for the COIN system, but you may remember that I had the game in essentially its published form in 2015, while I was still working on Colonial Twilight.
Finishing off the latter properly, the big pandemic, a death in the family and the usual testing and development turmoil delayed it for nearly 10 years, quite the longest gestation period of any of my games.
I'm also pleased with your characterization of the faction interaction in the game... I did quip that this would be a good game for four passive-aggressive types to play.

I just snatched up a copy of Chicago 68.  I've gotten through 2 full playthroughs of Congress of Vienna - so good - so good.

Loved hearing your picks for the year! I marked down some to check out!

Thank you. i am pleased that Blue & Gray Deluxe made the list and by association Napoleon at War. I have both and have been impressed (I did have originals back in the day) and you are right to say that they have their place - I can just pull it off the shelf and play and it fits our short face-to-face sessions.

A lighter (streamlined) version of the Great Stateman series could be done with the Council at Fort Laramie.  It would focus on negotiations between Red Cloud, Sitting Bull, the US Senate representatives, and the Frontier Army. The negotiations began in June 1866, complicated by the arrival of Colonel Carrington and the 18th Infantry (two battalions) with construction supplies for forts. The Council lasted until the end of the Red Cloud's War in 1868. The turns would be based on the seasonal availability of the leaders (three segments per year: lean spring, the fattening season, and winter quarters). The war segment would involve skirmishes along the Bighorn (Greasy Grass), Rosebud, Tongue, and Powder rivers that would take or occupy Lakota leaders from the council (the Lakota frequently targeted the Army's food supplies).  There is enough friction between the Senate and frontier Army for them to be separate factions. The same is true with the natives, putting Crazy Horse and Red Cloud in a faction separate from Gaul and Sitting Bull.  The issues they negotiated were plentiful: open hunting grounds, railroads, roads, forts, settlement zones (Crow, Lakota, Oglala), weapon purchases for hunting, mining.... Temporary agreements, such as supplying weapons for hunting, would impact raids on livestock for which the natives would say that livestock were legitimate hunting targets since it was their land.  There could also be a push by the Army (Carrington) to send mountain men such as Jim Bridger to convince squatters and gold seekers to leave, which would deescalate the pressures on the Senate. Conversely, raids by Crazy Horse would make Bridger's job easier.

Both "Blue and Gray" and "Napoleon at War" were based on the "Napoleon at Waterloo" (1971) system.
What I like best about the Blue & Gray package is that it retained the best parts of the graphics from the original SPI games.  I especially liked the colors and font from the original SPI games.  Decision largely retained them for this release.  I hope they keep that if they do more Civil War battles in this system in the future.
The Napoleon at War package is also very nice even if I'm less than enthralled by the very little pictures on little counters that so many publishers have embraced.  The original SPI outlines of a soldier, horseman and cannon for Infantry, cavalry and artillery was a graphically more elegant choice.  I've heard that Decision is considering doing another release with other "Napoleon at Waterloo" system games ("Austerlitz", "Borodino" and "Napoleon's Art of War" with Eylau & Dresden) from the SPI era.

The Gamers' BCS system (Inflection Point) gives the player a very, very different twist on low-level, operational activity.  It's eye-opening, and while a little time-consuming (although not as time-consuming as the GOSS system, IMO) , it's very rewarding.  I would love to see a BCS version of the battle for Smolensk, in 1941.

You were correct in saying that weirdly named German unit existed - they were radio controlled tanks (early drones). It was mentioned in several works on the Soviet-German fronts. You are in good company - I was once told there was no such thing as Navaho code-talkers

Thanks Grant for choosing our game, An Impossible War. We spent a great time playing with you! I hope we will meet Alexander next time! I am Spanish, and Catalonia is part of Spain, so no problem. I am from Andalucia.

Good content.  Adding photos of the setup boards and components would really add a lot.

Excellent video. I really appreciate your different and complementary points of view

For me, there were two games that topped my playlist. First was Historic'One's "Oppidum". Second was Relative Range's "Plague of Dracula".

Pericles - but with a combat system more like Congress of Vienna would be my perfect game 👍

The La Bataille games from Marshsl Enterprises and Clash of Arms are considered grand tactical level. They use the battalion as the primary unit size and 125 yards per hexagon. Units are measured in steps, each step being 100 infantry, 50 cavalry or 1 gun.

Great banter & great game selections. Thank you for the recommendations.

Suggestion: when you bring up a new game put a little picture of it somewhere of the board, it would make it a good reference for viewers

Great list boys!  Thanks for the video.

Great Content as Always, Boys.
