Tara Erickson, Aaron Alexander, Andrew Gordon, and John Humphrey react to Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018), the explosive final chapter of the Maze Runner trilogy directed by Wes Ball (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes) and starring Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf, American Assassin). Picking up after the events of The Scorch Trials, the film finds Thomas and the remaining Gladers launching a dangerous final mission to save their captured friends and bring down the corrupt organization known as WCKD once and for all.
As the group infiltrates the heavily fortified Last City, the stakes reach their highest point yet, culminating in massive set pieces including the unforgettable city-wide train heist, high-speed chases through collapsing skyscrapers, and an all-out rebellion against WCKD’s forces. Dylan O’Brien delivers an emotional and physical performance as Thomas, joined by Kaya Scodelario (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Skins) as Teresa, Thomas Brodie-Sangster (Game of Thrones, Love Actually) as Newt, Ki Hong Lee (The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as Minho, and Rosa Salazar (Alita: Battle Angel) as Brenda.
The film also features Patricia Clarkson (Sharp Objects, The Green Mile) as the chilling WCKD leader Ava Paige, whose ruthless pursuit of a cure forces impossible moral choices. We break down the trilogy’s emotional conclusions, the tragic sacrifices that define the finale, and how The Death Cure balances blockbuster action with themes of friendship, loyalty, and survival. Does this finale deliver a satisfying end to the Maze Runner saga? We dive into the chaos, heartbreak, and legacy of the franchise.

"Please, Tommy, please"

Three words that will forever break the heart of any Maze Runner fan

@AstoriaHestia 7 months ago (edited)

At the end, when Thomas reads the letter, Newt's actor sits outside the frame and reads the text to us.
The emotions Thomas feels are the ones Dylan felt at that moment, as he had no idea what the letter would be about.

Oh and Newt was the brother of the blonde girl Aris was with, but they never found out while Newt was alive.
And the little brother mentioned by Brenda in the last film was in the maze with Newt and the others. Thomas stumbled across his grave in the forest before he was attacked by Ben.

Frypan's name is Frypan because he was one person who COULDN'T remember his name like everyone else, so they gave him a name relating to his job; he was the cook, thus, Frypan

On March 18, 2016, it was reported that actor Dylan O'Brien was injured on set and was hospitalized. He suffered serious injuries when he was dragged under the vehicle to which he was strapped, while filming the opening train chase sequence on 17 March. His injuries included concussion, fractured cheekbones and orbital socket as well as lacerations. James Dashner announced via Twitter that the production was postponed after the accident. However, on April 29, 2016, when his recovery took longer than expected, production was shut down indefinitely. On May 27, 2016, 20th Century Fox rescheduled the film for January 12, 2018, allowing time for Dylan O'Brien to fully recover from his injuries sustained on-set. Production resumed almost a year later, in February 2017.

Man Newt's letter never fails to break me. That was the homie since day one 😭

@Kidapollo92 7 months ago

Thomas Brodie-Sangster wrote Newt's letter on his own. Director Wes Ball took it as souvenir from the set.

The take which lead to Dylan O'Brien's head injury was used in the film, when Thomas jumps from the window of a moving car as it approaches the WCKD train. Wes Ball, who revealed that it was the longest shot of the sequence, asked O'Brien's permission to have it included in the film, to which O'Brien responded, "I need you to, in a way. I would be more heartbroken than if it just went to waste." After the incident, Ball decided to no longer shoot with a moving train and opted for a parked one instead, with effects from WETA giving the illusion that it was in motion

After the WCKD headquarters is in lockdown, Ava tells Teresa to leave as the last train out is in 38 minutes. That's the exact amount of time of film left until the end credits rolled in.

depressing things in the books:
-Newt has a limp (the movies seem to forget this), because he climbed to the top of the maze and jumped off trying to kill himself.
-Newt gives the note to Thomas long before the end fight when he's turning, in the note he begs Thomas to kill him because he doesn't want to turn and forget who he is again.
-Thomas shoots Newt in the head.
-We learn not only was WICKED controlling Gally and made him *throw a knife that kills Chuck, WICKED also made Chuck jump in front of Thomas as a test to see how he would react and handle the situation moving forward.

The rotten tomatoes score for this movie is honestly such bullshit. This movie was soo good!

@bananaslin 7 months ago

This was the movie that made Dylan approach stunts differently. If you watch his pre-injury stuff you can see how he just throws his body around without second thought, he’d prefer to do his own stunts a lot too. After the near death injuries he sustained he said his relationship with stunts and taking care of his body while filming changed a lot. Trauma will do that to you!

I really love how much you guys are pointing out how well shot all three of these movies are because I think it’s a very unsung part of this series. There is some really fun camera work throughout this entire series.

@gabs2230-e6j 7 months ago

The way i have no sympathy for theresa's ending 😭😭
I get she was wanted to find a cure for the illness but when you literally since day one knew you were signing up with a company literally ruining innocent kids lives in the name of "we need to find a cure" i dont feel bad for her😭.
Also, i fr dont know what it is, but last kiss thomas and her shared felt..odd. like both of them are good actors in this movie, but the chemistry was non-existent. I hate when a movie's script is telling us "no this 2 are in love" but the screen play screams hell no😂😂😂

@Kidapollo92 7 months ago

There's a scene where Teresa and Ava are presenting their data to board members at WCKD. One member, the only one not to speak a word, is none other than that author of the book series James Dashner

@Daniphantom325 7 months ago

the beginning scene is mostly real, and dylan o’brien actually got REALLY hurt during the stunt scene jumping on the train. he had facial reconstruction surgery and broke multiple bones, shooting was delayed for over a year.

Just want to point out that Thomas may have been the cure but he can’t just make himself bleed and feed an infected his blood no they have to actually take his blood and turn it into the cure

"Wow you suck!"

It's a very rare thing to have a great trilogy but Maze Runner is definitely a great trilogy. There's no point in even arguing about it. Each one has been so well made and with amazing action and storylines throughout. And Newt's farewell letter to Thomas at the end is just the icing on the cake.
