It annoys me that Tsar Ferdinand literally has "Dreams of a new Byzantium" by default but you have absolutely no ability to reform Byzantium or make a claim as the new Rome.

You don't need to take the focuses to improve relations with Germany and Italy.  Italy will always attack you over Albania, usually happens around May of 39.  Germany will join the war against you around July-August, but you should on the doorstep of Rome by then.  Making Hungary a puppet from the get go, will give you a pile of resources and Germany will respect their sovereignty, usually.  You need to build a rail line, in preparation for the Yugo civil war, which is easy to quell.  This helps you maintain supply on the main line.  Once you've built some good offensive divisions, you can cap Germany.  They usually don't even invade Poland.

Communist path to form the Balkan Federation was fun and not too hard to get rolling, plus i think its the easiest way to get rearmament.

Greece with the Byzatine Empire has a higher ceiling since u to core all of Italy + most of the Mediterranean coastal states + all of Turkey + the cores Bulgaria gets, but I think bc Bulgarias focus tree being more powerful you get going a lot quicker/more easily. Plus u get so many research bonuses which is really nice, although i do think greece starts a little bit ahead (they can at least produce ships)

Greece has a really tough war against Turkey to form the Byzantine empire which im not sure is doable without cheesing, either port trap them in greece and wait till u kill like half their units, or fall back line trap them near Istanbul. Also to get all of the cores for Greece u need to beat the Allies, Axis, and Comintern and probably need to beat whichever u fight first with the help of one of the other major factions.
