From Goma to Kigali, the African Union’s peace consultations continued with a meeting between President Paul Kagame and members of the AU Panel of Facilitators on 7 October 2026.
After meeting AFC/M23 leaders in Goma, the facilitators reportedly toured the city under an AFC/M23 escort before travelling to Rwanda. This report follows that journey and the diplomatic meetings that followed.
On 6 October, Rwanda’s Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe and other senior officials received former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta to discuss the Panel’s work and ongoing AU-led peace efforts.
The following afternoon, President Kagame received former Ethiopian President Sahle-Work Zewde, Uhuru Kenyatta, former Botswana President Mokgweetsi Masisi, and Togolese Deputy Foreign Minister Yackoley Kokou Johnson at Urugwiro Village. According to Rwanda’s Presidency, discussions focused on the peace process, next steps towards lasting stability in eastern DRC, and addressing the conflict’s root causes.
We also examine AFC/M23’s statement concerning language, identity and Congolese citizenship. Its allegations against Kinshasa are presented as the movement’s claims. The supplied official statements do not announce a new peace agreement.
