The scene where Neo is being informed that he has to make another matrix because the studio mandates it and he doesnt actually have ownership over the ip. That scene literally explains everything exactly as it happened irl

in the beginning of the movie theres literally a sign that says "for those that like to eat shit"

I think the conflicting view comes from the conflict of what the movie really is. Those expecting a serious sequel to the series are gonna be massively disappointed. But when you realize it's a giant FU to the studio who wanted them to bring back all the characters for a cash grab it's brilliant, as it's just enough to make stupid studio executives think it will be good because it checks off all the boxes and they have no sense of taste so they green light it.

Neo the games designer was literally told, ‘you make us a new game, or we’ll do it for you.’ as soon as they said that, it clicked for me. 🙌 to the Wachowskis

I came to this same conclusion after watching it in theaters. It was so bad and so blatantly meta, you felt as if the director was basically saying, "Can you believe this is what they made me create?"

I thought the recasting of Smith and Morpheus were a commentary on how studios try to reboot franchises with new actors in old roles, and expect the same performance. They act as if delivery and performance were transactional.

isn't a theory. the wachowskis stated prior to the film even starting production that they make a mock parody of their own work in the pitch and the mgmt didnt catch the joke so they just kept running with it

Watches Move: This movie sucks
Learns the movies is a middle finger to WB: This movie isn't that bad

When “Smith” said WB wants to do a new trilogy with or without the original creator I knew from that moment in what I was watching.

One thing I learned very early working in advertising is NEVER give the clients a deliberately bad concept as an option because that's the one they will chose to make, without fail.

I thought this was overtly stated by the movie when Neo was forced to produce a game he didn't want to because of a contract he was locked into.

"The first half is an apology for the second half." as part of the opening of your second half of this video is really clever.

Matrix 5 should have Steven Seagal as Neo.

"Morpheus" in this movie is actually an (in universe) AI recreation of the real Morpheus (who is dead) so that's another layer of meta-commentary on how being dead won't stop you from being dragged out like an old rug (cough star wars cgi cameos cough hack wheeze)

I literally went from straight confusion as to what I had just seen with The Matrix Resurrections to laughing hysterically for twenty minutes straight. I honestly couldn’t believe what I’d just seen.

Neil Patrick Harris saying "bullet time" actually made me tear up from cringing the hardest I have in my entire life

I think even the Bugs Bunny reference in Matrix Resurrections was an attempt to insult Warner Bros for making a cash grab sequel to Space Jam

The theory makes perfect sense. In fact when Steven Spielberg made ET he  immediately wrote a sequel. It was so awful that it was  scrapped right away. It eventually came out that this was done on purpose because Spielbergs contract called for a sequel idea. He did not want this movie to be made so he purposely wrote such a bad story that no producer would green light the idea.

18:39 "And, the movie ends."  I watched this movie and legitimately believed you there...

Matrix fans after Matrix 3:  “I never want it to end!”

Matrix 4:  “Are you sure about that!?”
