At sixteen, he was already trusted with gold shipments other adults weren't. At eighteen, he was given his own castle. Three months later, a fire took him so completely that no one has ever found a body to bury.
This is the full story of Mori Ranmaru, told by a descendant of samurai who served Uesugi Kenshin — the one rival Oda Nobunaga could never fully defeat.
Mori Ranmaru grew up the son of a general who died holding an impossible defensive position so Nobunaga could survive. By his late teens, Ranmaru had become one of Nobunaga's most trusted attendants — moving gold, carrying official orders, and managing the income of an entire domain, before he was old enough to command a single soldier. On June 21, 1582, he was in the room when everything ended.
In this episode:
→ How a father's death at a hopeless battle shaped the family Ranmaru was born into
→ The paperwork trail proving a teenager was managing Nobunaga's money years before anyone would trust him with a sword
→ Why Nobunaga handed him a castle worth more than land held by seasoned warlords — and why Ranmaru never once lived there
→ What actually happened inside Honnoji the morning Akechi Mitsuhide turned his army around
→ The one eyewitness account of Ranmaru's final minutes — and why historians still argue over how much of it to believe

Mori Ranmaru was eighteen. He'd already been trusted with the income of an entire castle. When the temple he was sleeping in was surrounded by 13,000 soldiers before dawn, he had a brief window to escape.
He chose to stay at Nobunaga's side instead. So did his two younger brothers.
To this day, no body has ever been found.
