My vet has owned his practice for 35 yrs . He has recommended Glucosamine for decades with our Boxers . Our current 8 yr old , neutered male is a “ C “ high risk for DM . He’s been on it for yrs and recently we added Turmeric and Green Lip Mussel powder from New Zealand to help him as he grows older . He’s got a little arthritis in his lower spine but still runs and plays with no issues . Thank you for the great information , as always .

I moved my dog and even myself from the traditional Glu/Cho combo to UC-II and high levels of DHA/EPA/ETA doses and the change has been ASTOUNDINGLY beneficial

My vet recommended the younger shepherds past puppy stage get Cosequin. Older ones get Dasuquin. I have since an initial boost in mobility with Dasuquin but no difference in advanced dasuquin products. My almost 13 year old shepherd, whp passed Monday, had a multi modal approach - prescription food, nsaid, gabapentin, adequan, and ursolyx. He came to us at almost 9 with bad joints and overweight, but he did well up almost to the end. Acupuncture was too much of a stressor for him. All that definitely worked together to help him retain mobility.

I feed my dog Black Gold Explorer original performance dry dog food that contains glucosamine and condroitin due to him being athletic. He loves to run and jump. He's a 1 year old pitbull/ American Bully mix

The studies focusing primarily on osteoarthritis might be the issue here? Osteoarthritis has symptoms that are easily missed or misinterpreted by owners. I would like to see similar studies done on dogs with lower grade (I + II) luxating patellas, as symptoms appear earlier, within the first 2-3 years of the dogs life and are usually noticed before it blows into ostheoarthritis. Of course luxating patellas will cause joint degradation over time because of the kneecap slipping out of place, but I feel like it might give us clearer data on the supportive effects of glucosamine for lubricating joints?
Yes I know that luxating patellas are easily resolved with surgery, but in my country low grades on small breeds are treated supportively with supplements and being kept lean. Mine completely stopped skipping a step within 4 weeks of being put on a supplement cointaining glucosamine, chondroitin, msm and green lipped mussel and has remained very active (low impact activity of course)

Its crazy the in that study with such a small group that 2 had to be tossed from the data because of car accidents. Maybe those were completely cured and felt so good they forgot to look for cars?
Do these studies imply anything for younger healthy dogs looking to prevent future issues? I feel longer term studies with higher milelage dogs is needed

My vet recommended movoflex and I know NOTHING about this type of joint support, but it is quite expensive. Kinda curious if you have any opinions on that one.
