This is why beds had curtains around them. To protect the warm air around the bed

I live in a  circa 1778 saltbox house in Connecticut...5 fireplaces.

I live near Savannah GA in a 1885 farmhouse. 4 fireplaces. One in the kitchen. 13 foot ceilings and all b- board walls and ceilings. It's so comfortable and after work, I love to just come home to the dogs and cats and relax❤

I live in a log cabin that was built 260 years ago. It sits on my sister's farm in the Appalachian mountains in Maryland. They just had it renovated to include plumbing and insulation in the upstairs. It's an amazing piece of history, and consider myself blessed to be here. This story is wonderfully appropriate and appreciated. ❤

This is very humbling. We take so much for granted today.

I live in Massachusetts.  Your speaking of my ancestors.  Luckily, I have diaries that validate these videos.  Thank you!

This sort of video is my escape from our tormented reality of current scarce, bizarre, & technological world. I’d prefer to go back to this time where food was not bothered with & people were just people. No talks of robots & data centers. Life was simple & future could be dreamed of.

Listening from Puerto Rico. Weather to hot too sleep cozy if you don't got AC. But this story sure does help. Love it!!

From Virginia. Recently started listening to some audiobooks on YT of Laura Ingalls Wilder's books. This is a very peaceful video, I love it.

I’m proud to say I live in a historical property in Windsor CT that has a very low ceiling in the kitchen and the rooms are relatively small compared to most modern homes but you can’t duplicate the look and overall feel that a house that old will give ya! Uneven door frame and all!

Expat listening at 12 midnight in Ho Chi Minh City  (Saigon) Vietnam. Appreciate your soothing voice and interesting history of much rougher, but simpler, times.

You're a beautiful storyteller! I felt like i was IN that story. Thank you.

How can I sleep if you show such interesting videos of the lives of these people too? They deserve to be watched, also the quality is excellent, I also love your voice and the info about those times gives such great insights into eras of the past.  :) Also, for me in Germany, it's so interesting to see how people in America live and lived in the past. All the best! :)

Currently in Houston TX in a hotel room trying to go to sleep

I was having a little trouble sleeping in the middle of the night so I turned this on. So glad it randomly popped up. Very interesting ,well written/spoken. Your voice quality is excellent!
I totally found myself living back in those days. thank you for this wonderful, informative video.

New Port Richey FL, above Tampa. My favorite luxury at bedtime is an ' Ultra Chill Cooling Pillowcase ' from Amazon. Actually cold to the touch, because the temperature and humidity level today is exactly the same as Da Nang , Vietnam.
God bless these Colonists. I couldn't do it. I did however live in an old Victorian home,  circa 1905, with no central heat or A/C.  Bricked up fireplace in every bedroom and frost on the inside window panels on the coldest nights in Manassas , VA.
I was young then. Couldn't, wouldn't do that now.

From Houston, TX. Thank you very much for this video. It’s a reminder not to take for granted the progress we made in general, as a nation.

Pepperell, MA at 11PM. I listen every night; love the 1950's videos and freezing cold prairie life. Thank you :)

It seems just like my house here in eastern Europe. In the winter, i get up each night at 1 am to put more wood on the fire.
