I Think I Found the Perfect Cherry Burl

Every once in a while, a piece of wood comes along that makes you stop and admire it before you even turn on the lathe.

This cherry burl was one of those pieces.

Unlike many burls, this one had almost no bark inclusions, voids, or major defects. Instead, it revealed beautiful swirling grain, rich natural color, and incredible figure throughout the entire bowl. Rather than hiding imperfections, this project became about preserving the wood's natural beauty.

To finish the piece, I hand-carved three elegant feet that lift the bowl and give it a lighter, gallery-style appearance. It's one of my favorite cherry burl bowls to date.
