So that's why Andrew says "i didn't save you" to Mary. He was actually talking about Megan... That broke my heart

I love how Jack bullies Angela nearly the whole time for absolutely no reason but she eventually wins him over with immortality and one liners

Angela: is pulled into sewers and presumed dead
John: oh no!... anyway

I’m
Sorry, but if that’s how Angela looks at 48, the years have been unusually unkind to her.

John: "I am the caretaker of you all"
Also John after hearing a weird noise: "aight imma head out"

The ending/true story explained!
Obvious spoiler warning!

The events of the game are one big delusion created by Anthony so he can feel like he saved his family and therefore forgive himself for failing them in the past. The central theme of LH is forgiveness, and the only way to 'win' the game is if everyone can find forgiveness. Vince must forgive Anthony. Anthony must forgive Megan for burning down the house, just as he must forgive himself for failing to save everyone.

The Witch Trials are essentially a metaphor for his trauma. He was raised in Little Hope, which is practically built upon its history with the witch trials. From its historical reenactment society, to its witchcraft museum - even the name of the rundown bar is a reference to witchcraft - so it makes sense that he would use that as a parallel for the things that happened to him/his family. Anthony was also directly blamed for the blaze that killed everyone, so he can relate to the feeling of being falsely accused/blamed for something. This is also why all the 1700s dopplegangers are killed in a similar way to the family in the 70s. The mum suffocates, the dad is crushed, the brother falls and is impaled and the sister burns alive.

Ultimately the point of this sub-plot is so you can forgive Megan. The other characters are psychological projections of Anthony, and the fact that they're all quick to blame 'Mary' for the witch trails in the past, represents how Anthony subconsciously blames Megan for the deaths of his family. The only way to achieve the best ending is for him to realise that Mary/Megan had her own demon in the form of the Reverend (the game's opening mentions that the Reverend is spending more time with Megan, which suggests some abuse occuring).

The point of the demons in the modern day, is so that Anthony could forgive himself for not saving everyone in the house fire. As Anthony/Andrew, you cannot defeat the demons. It's up to the other characters to save themselves and make them disappear. In fact, if you try to save them, it more than often leads to their deaths. In the same way, you come to realise that you cannot hold yourself responsible for the deaths of your family, because you were utterly powerless to help.

To a lesser extent, I think the demons are also a tool for Anthony to forgive the flaws of his family. In the opening it's clearly shown that they're dysfunctional as a family unit. In the modern day, they can only save themselves once they change the content of their character and undo their crippling flaws. The dad/professor for example, who was previously detached from raising the kids and resented them, eventually had to step up and become a leader and a protector to them.

In the end, it's a story about trauma, guilt and self-forgiveness. It's a psychological horror masquerading as a supernatural one. I think the ending adds a lot of depth to the story, rather than leaving it incomplete. I would actually compare it to Silent Hill (namely the second one) as it bares a lot of striking similarities. Hope this breakdown helped!

‘Kids are f**** creepy, they’re like tiny adults... but way worse’

-Jacksepticeye 2020

"I've got a knife and a gun now, and that child has a doll that's doing more damage than both. I'mma shoot her in the face." That's the funniest line I've ever heard.

In the beginning of the story
Jack: die Angela DIE
Around the end of the story
Jack: lead me God Angela

Props to Robin for getting this out so quickly, there was a lot of livestream footage to trawl through so go Robin :)

Jack : Most hated Angela

Also Jack : Made a good relationship with Angela and keep her alive

Jack the reason the others died is because you as those characters never unlocked their most important trait, you have to fight your demon as Daniel when trying to be pulled up, you have to help people as Taylor, and lastly john has to hold the door while he says people to leave him behind making him heroic

"Everything Megan does is an accident"
"Even her birth"
Megan appears behind him

Jacksepticeye: “This gate isn’t going to open, why even try”
The gate: opens
Jacksepticeye mug of confusion

John: "I feel responsible for you all."

Also John: flees at the first sign of trouble.

Daniel saying "what if we're all actually dead right now?" really hit hard at the end huh

See that's why you don't slam on the brakes. It's better just to hit the person full speed and call it a loss lol

My favorite thing about this game was watching the characters slowly develop in learning that when someone gets grabbed they're going to the past. Seeing one character jump onto whoever was getting grabbed to make sure they stayed with them was probably the most wholesome part of this entire game.

The Curator: Turns around

Me & Jack : Hate to see him go 😔 but love to watch him leave 😳

I think the draw to this game comes with the tragedy. It's not Andrew watching his friends die, it's Anthony reliving the deaths of his mother, father, and siblings. Even when it comes to Abraham. He's always defending Mary because Anthony was always defending Megan, who was constantly being a little troublemaker. The reverend is the villain because he's the officer who wouldn't let Anthony die with his family. Even during the fire, Anthony likely knew they were all dead, but he still yelled "mom" as he ran back in. The events of this game are the hallucinations of a traumatized, psychologically broken boy. No one will ever understand the pain he's going through, or that he's constantly seeing new scenarios for his family to die in. He'll even likely be sent to a mental hospital, and probably relive his trauma there.
