Tighten your chain extra tight before sharpening, this will prevent the teeth from pushing or pulling over. That's why you are sharpening unevenly.

This video demonstrates a user error, not an equipment fault. I use one of these on both my Husqvarna and Stihl Chainsaws.

Not sure if you have solved your sharpening issue and I can't tell from the video if what I am about to explain might be the issue but here goes.  If sharpening in one direction is flattening the depth gauge the sharpener not only has to rotate for the opposite side but also flipped over so the flat file is on the other side of the round file.  If you are rotating but not flipping, the flat file won't be on the correct side of the blade to touch the depth gauge.

So I really thought he was a chuckle head on this but noticed the same issue on mine. It’s all about where you apply pressure. If you apply more pressure toward the saw side you will remove more material on the gullet. I found my self doing this on my saw and found exactly the same thing happening in this video

From the videos I’ve watched. It’s not for a skip tooth chain and they turn the saw upside to file the opposite teeth. Also they either put it in a vice or stump clamp.

I have no clue but you brought some light into it for me.  Thanks for taking us along.  Stay safe and healthy.

Hope ya get it bud.good luck

I've dealt with a lot of those and I've honestly never seen issues like that, might be a defect one or maybe even a slight inconsistency with sharpening style switching sides but typically that also shows with hand sharpening so idk. Most important thing when sharpening any chainsaw is that it gets sharp and safe so whatever you feel is best is the way you do it man but little tips I can give that I picked up is make sure your chain is tight before filing. When I file I'll tension my saw then I'll slide a felling wedge between the bottom of the bar and the bottom of the chain to tighten it up even more, the tighter you make that chain (without causing damage) the less that cutter is gonna move giving you more consistent cuts. That will help with that problem you pointed out in the video where you said it felt like the friction was moving your cutter, don't be afraid to tighten it up more with like a wedge or something like I said, a good bit of youtube videos show it being done the one that I can think of off hand is a channel called guilty of trees on where they're square filing a chain. I'm not suggesting square filing cause it's a pain to learn and it's very hard to do with and even harder without a jig but the video shows them using I think a saw wrench to put between the bar and chain to tighten it up. Other than that if you want to improve on your hand filing only other thing I can recommend if you're not doing it already is some form of jig set up to keep you consistent but that's up to you. But if you want to check out a really awesome sharpener that I personally plan buying check out the timberline chainsaw sharpener. I've seen a lot of guys using them and they are very very accurate and very consistent price can be a little steep compared to hand files it's 125 ish for the set up but it cuts better and lasts way longer than files. Big thing for the rakers tho is find a guide that has both a hardwood and softwood setting. The way you hand file appears to be good just do what you feel gets the job done best and sorry the stihl 2in1 wasn't working like I said I've never seen that before and we use to sell a lot of those at the shop

damn good show robert. youve got the hand sharpening down no problem.

The sharpener was designed for full complement chain, you have to be really aware when sharpening skip tooth, mime works  great with the skip tooth ,just stay consistent  with your back pressure on the file

Hi and thanks for this video, exactly the same thing happened to me but youve made me want to give it another go.(now, where did i put it 😂)

Lookin good mister

love mine use on 550xp mk2 cant failt it

Hi everyone.
I have a Stihl 2 in 1 sharpener at 4 ou 5 years. It always worked well but at the moment my last chain is also cuting to one side. I think that it is because the cutters have now different size from one side to the other. I am right handed and when i file to one side i take more material than when i turn the bar to the other size. I think if you measure the cutters from one side will be bigger than the other side of the chain. If you correct the sizes of the cutters you will have a straight cut again.

I see two potential problems in your attempts to make this sharpener work. 1: are you sharpening each tooth as they come and switch the angle in between or every second tooth, then switch the saw around and do the second set? I think the sharpener only works from inside out. 2: your logs look quite dirty. that can be hard on the chain. specially when one side is damaged more.
I'm using the .325 and the .404 sharpener and they perform great. I'm also driving a wedge on the underside between the chain and bar for every section of teeth for tightening.

I agree with you I have looked at it multiple I think it is a bit overpriced in Australia

Nice video bro

This is so weird to me.  Everything you are doing looks right, but I literally just did a review on this system last week because of how much I love it.  I mostly am cutting 30-40” hardwood trees and have had no issue.  I typically hit it with 3 light strokes per tooth every time I sharpen.  I wish I knew why your experience was so different than mine.

Sir, you are the first that has the exact same problem I’m having. The local Stihl dealer doesn’t seem to understand my problem. I also want to believe in every Stihl product, but this sharpener just isn’t consistent. I’ve been guessing at the rakers in the opposite direction that it doesn’t file with a flat file. I’ve been chainsaw milling for about 6 months and I’m going to have to give up on this sharpener. Additionally, have you noticed it doesn’t sharpen the full depth of the tooth? I’m also going back to free hand sharpening.
