It’s not just the taxi drivers in Istanbul, it’s most of the country.

@billybobjohn8955 2 years ago

Good news, the Metro has opened from the airport to the city.

the year 2024 will come soon and the story about taxi scam in Istanbul still exist and became worst. Hey... where is Istanbul's policemen ?
What a story and I can understand you emotion. thanks for sharing.

For those who are going to Istanbul, read this: always take the airport coach Havaist. They have comfy buses going to many parts of the city. The average price is only USD10! Of course the buses won’t take you direct to your hotel. Once you get to the city, their efficient commuter trains and trams should get you closer to your destination for just another USD1!! This is if you don’t mind the small hassle of changing from bus to Train. Way less hassle than getting caught up in a taxi scam!

Over the years I’ve traveled most of the world with no real problems and soon will be going to Istanbul for the first time. After weeks of doing my homework I am more apprehensive about going to Istanbul then anywhere I’ve ever been. It seems like the whole place whether it be Taxis,hotels or just buying items wants to rip you off ?.

@temorshahkharooti4101 1 year ago

You are 100 percent right. It is not only Taxis, but almost everything in Istanbul is a scam. Language barrier makes it worse and easy for scammers to scam you.

I m Turkish.I m sorry what happened with your taxi experience in Istanbul.Unfourtunitly ,many taxi drivers behaving like that . Istanbul police must work on this issue more.Always take shuttle from airport and subway to your destination.

Hi Hobarts. Trust me İ had a quite similar situation. İn my case it was not an Uber but a normal taxi. Luckily for me it was upon arrival to my apartment that he added 250 liras on top of the meter's indication. İt was the same explanation of toll fee. İ told him that İ was not going to pay that . İ treatned to call the police, he somehow lowered his standing. İ paid him less.
Thank you for spreading this awareness. Surely many people have been victim of this scam

Is brutal! I was scammed big time at a restaurant in the Sultan Ahmed area.
Public transportation is the best option- never taxi- no thanks.

@safrazhusain9612 2 years ago

In the end you should have paid him only 600 cash to teach that crook a lesson

@amzarandi 1 year ago

thank you for the important information you share with tourists going to turkey. the only country i think you can get scammed is turkey. i have traveled to the country several times and every time i have experienced some unpleasantness. country of scammers. turks have a much cheaper price for themselves than foreigners. shame.

@johnsinger1887 2 years ago

If you are a foreigner and take a taxi in Istanbul , you will be robbed, this is the rule. It happened to me also , they charged me the double price and then somebody told me that there is UBER in Istanbul. With UBER they never charged me more than the proposed amount by UBER. But even if they do that, you can ask your money back from UBER, so I believe that UBER is mostly a safe option in Istanbul.
