How does a free-running rig detect a bite when there’s no float stop?
In this video, I take a closer look at how a free-running rig works in Japanese-style fukase fishing and explain why the float can still show a bite even without a float stop.
Using an actual fishing setup, I demonstrate what happens when a fish takes the hookbait, how the main line moves through the float, and how that movement eventually causes the float to sink.
I also explain how split shot can be used with a free-running rig and why the common idea that “you shouldn’t use split shot on a free-running rig” isn’t necessarily true.
If you’re interested in fukase fishing, float fishing, or simply want to better understand how a free-running rig works, I hope this video helps!
